Not to be the annoying newb that nobody can stand, but a lot of my companions who are picking up Mordheim with me are curious as to what warbands they can legally use (as we are going to be playing in a campaign). At first I thought it was only the ones from the LRB and other official rules, but on other forums I have heard of people using Osterlanders, Kislevites, and Averlanders. Are the legitimate for tournament play? If it owuld not be too much of a problem, could someone post what warbands are legal? Thanks The Walrus

As always, it depends on the tournament. Generally anything in print is considered legal. This includes all of the warbands in the rule book and also in the Annual 2002. Rulebook Legal Warbands: Marienburgers Middenheimers Possessed Reiklanders Sisters of Sigmar Skaven (Clan Eshin I think) Undead Witch Hunters Annual 2002 Legal Warbands: Averlanders Dwarf Treasure Hunters Kislevites Orcs and Goblins Ostlanders NOTE: I believe the Shadow Elves warband from the Annual 2002 is no longer valid but they are working on a new version of it. Everything else should be good to go. EDIT: Also Im pretty sure the Carnival of Chaos and Beastmen warbands are legal from the Empire in Flames supplement.

Actually, if you check the website the only "Official" rules for warbands are the Dwarf Treasure Hunters, the Orcs n Gobbos, and the actual rulebook bands. All the others have been moved into the "Articles" section, meaning they might be fully playtested, but are not official for the Mordheim setting. Although, most players don't care as long as it has been written in a Town Cryer or an annual. Just make sure its alright with your gaming group before you go buying models. I made a list of those warbands, and I think it came out to around thirty lists... ah: Reiklanders Middenheimers Marienburgers Witch Hunters Sisters of Sigmar Possessed Skaven (Clan Eshin) Undead Kislevites Osterlanders Averlanders Orcs n Goblins Dwarf Treasure Hunters Shadow Warriors Remasens Miragleans Trantios Pit Fighters Bretonnians Dark Elves Norse Lizardmen Beastmen Carnival of Chaos Tomb Guard Tomb Raiders Amazons Pirates Everything from Shadow Warriors down is "Unofficial", but has been posted online or in a town cryer (most online at some point). I'm sure there's a few missing, but those lists seem fairly balanced. Some might seem a little over-the-top, but every list has its weaknesses and strengths, and with competitive players any game should be a close one.
