Default Coherency: In or Out?

Hey LO, I'm going to be starting a Necromunda Campaign soon at my local hobby shop, and with that, my first game of Necromunda as well. Anyway, I just wanted to know for sure if the 2'' coherency rule from regular 40k applies or not (it doesnt really specify). I was always under the Impression that coherency didn't apply allowing gangers free movment to roam anywhere independently.

If coherency does apply, then thats fine, but If it doesnt apply then I'd really appreciate if you would maybe drop some strategy into your post and share some tactica as to how you move your gangers and why. Thanks in advance.

Unit coherency does not apply in Necromunda.

I usually have about 10-12 guys in my gang, I keep my heavies about 1.5-2' away from eachother where they can get good fire lanes, if I have a particularly large building in my deployment zone though they'll both go in it. Each heavy gets 1-2 guys to stay with him and help out if his gun runs out of ammo, they also take shots by standing closer and help the heavy if he gets pinned.

My other men move out in 2 groups of 3-4 guys, this allows them to make good use of cover and have a decent amount of combat ability. These groups stay within 1`of eeachother at all times to avoid being outnumbered and killed. The models in each group will stay about 1-2 inches away from eachoter when they can in case of template weapons and to help against shotgun scatter shells, stray shots and people spreading the fire of their heavy weapons. All the stuff that makes you want to spead out a bit.

Thats some really good tactica. I'll keep all that in mind when fighting with my Scavvies. Thanks for the advice.

OOh, scavvies you say?

I used to have a gang of scavvies, they play very differently to normal gangs and if I were you i'd start out with a normal gang.

If you have your heart set on scavvies here's some advice for using them:

-First scavvy dogs are much better than zombies and ghouls. Rush them ahead f youyr main group and allow them to draw the enemies fire.

-Leave at 125-150 credits in your stash when you create your gang, this will allow you to replenish your force and since you get an unbeleivably low cash flow rate it will keep your gang compedative for much longer than it normally would be. Also this will allow you to keep as much of your horde loyal as possible, a bad post game disloyalty roll could be crippling if you don't have much in your stash. It will also help you out in case your guys don't find enough food; otherwise you could end up eating Jim!

-Keep your guys in 2-3 groups (apart from the dogs who should rush ahead drawing fire, (and possibly running some overwatching heavy weapons out of ammo). These groups should be of about equel numbers.

-Don't bother with the ranged game, autoguns and scatter cannons cost a lot and with your BS you won't win a shooting war, Give about a third of your guys clubs and autopistols, a third cllubs and daggers and a third clubs daggers and blunderbusses. Maybe you could spprinkle a few swords and mutations around (I find claws, tentacles, and extra arms to b the most useful.

-Scalies are good but get obscenely expensive, i usually just get them a sword and maybe a throwing axe. In addition to the free club, these guys shoould be kept cheep and efficient.

Remember scavvies are a fun army, they do well in the early stages of a campaign but winning in the late game will be hard. Don't take who wins the campaign so seriously; if all we wanted to do was win wouldn't we choose something less expensive than GW?

I also have an Orlock gang but I kind of have my heart set on Scavvies. Thats some very good tactica, and I'll probably take it all into account and try it all, but my main question to you is modeling.

What should I do about the actual individual gangers? You see I have the old school scavvie gang box, all the models are pre-armed and to make matters more complicated, I've already painted some of them (quite nicely I might add too, I spent an average of 3 and a half hours painting each fighter).

Now I'm no stranger to conversion but in order to take some of your advice I would have to butcher some of my prized master pieces. Heres what the models come with.

2 scavvies have stub pistols 1 w/ a knife & 1 w/ a hand weapon (looks sorta like a little scythe).
1 scavvie has a shot gun & 1 has an auto gun.
My scalie has a spear thrower and my boss has a shotgun, auto pistol, & sword. Also I have 2 zombies and dont really know where to get scavvie dogs (I have chaos hounds). Any suggestions?
