Default What is the best skill tree?

As the only real difference between gangs are the standard skills they can choose when leveling I was wondering about what the people of LO who have played necromunda thought about these skill trees. I am talking about the gang as a whole not a specific type of gang member such as heavy or Leader. What in generel is the best tree? And as always motivate your choice after voting to make it a little bit more fun.

I go for techno for those insane ammo rolls that keep the big guns blazing away.

I voted Shooting. It was a toss up between that and Techno, but the number of times my medics that were meant to be helping people have ended up killing them took points away from Techno.

Personally I like Van Saar best as they're skill selection of Shooting, Combat and Techno allows you to specialise in both ranged and hand to hand and also have the versatile techno skill on top.

I have to say.. In the long run, it's probably techno.. Techno was massively toned down in the experimental revised skill trees (check them out, I believe they're up on the specialist games site) and with pretty good reason.

Why, you ask.. Well, medics for one. It's no good having gangers who are loaded up on skills if they're all dead. In the long run, a gang with 2 medics is far less likely to be ground down in a long campaign, which means more money to spend on other things. Yes, sometimes you get a worse result, but that's just learning when to roll and when not to.. If the sniper loses a finger, so what? If he loses an eye, it might be worth a reroll..

The ammo roll modifing things are pretty awesome at times too.. Especially for heavies, yum!

Inventor.. hmm.. yes, kind of bad. Unless you're an obscene roller, but hey, if that's the bad option, it's still better than a lot of skill trees bad options.

Specialist.. Hell yes, flamers and plasma guns ahoy!

If there is a cheese gang in Necromunda (discounting certain outlanders and other scum) it's Van Saar.. Shooting and Techno, two skill trees you really can't go too far wrong with.

Techno, no contest.

Not only does it have the best skills overall, but they're also the most consistent. Shooting, combat, and even agility and discretion can be good, but they have a few useless skills, and, more damagingly, some skills that don't go well with one another, or that force you to change the role of your model.

Techno, on the other hand, gives skills that tend to have more effects "off-game", i.e. that are not dependent on the specific weaponry of the model, or on the actions it takes at a given point during the game. Thus, any model can benefit from them.

This said, Van Saars are still way too constipated to be cool. Escher and Delaque remain my favorites ;Y

I'd like to take the opportunity to point out..

http://www.specialist-games.com/assets/NecSkillsV2.pdf

Far far better balanced. Anyone who is sick of Van Saar tech-ninjas needs to playtest these rules.. Techno hasn't even changed much in this version, but note that the other skill trees are now actually competative with it.

Small problem of what to do with outlander gangs who don't, strictly speaking, have heavies, but never mind..

Well although i'm new to the necromunda server on LO Ive played necromunda enough to know my favorite skill tree, honestly I voted for combat, seems not many ppl agree with me though lol, my first choice would have been stealth since it always seems to help me get close enough to my opponent, but for some reason it wasnt up there so combat being my second favorite it got picked.

I mean I agree with most of you that techno and shooting are great skill trees, they just arent my cup of cup, i find them to be, how do i put this, a bit over powered, and thats really not my thing. mind u ive been playing with the onld rules for awhile, might just try the new ones put up(by the giant mantis if im not mistaken) though maybe thatll change my mind, or at worst help my gang out
