Thread: My Converted Mechanicus Necron Army

    My Converted Mechanicus Necron Army

I love converting my armies but I make sure that they can still be recognized for what they are being used as. My last project was the winner of 'best army' at Open War 9 'THE GREAT GROT REBELLION' http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...-part-1-a.html

My current project is creating a renegade Adeptus Mechanicus cult called the 'Zanatorians' who deal in 'abominable intelligence' aka robots and strive to push forward the boundaries of technology that the Imperium deny and use it to evolve humanity to the next level of evolution. The army’s got some good fluff and I thought of several lists to use for them but in the end Necrons were the obvious choice.

Some of you may remember my warrior conversion post a while back well I’ve produced some new mock miniatures since then.

    Going from the left...

    The Liberator/ Machine Lord

“The Zanatorian Machine Cult is led by 3 high ranking techpriests referred to as ‘The Counsel of Elders’ under them exists 10 powerful warriors called Machine Lords who act as both the cult’s generals and main agents. Each of them able to guide and command whole armies of robots with their thoughts threw a powerful mind impulse unit.”

I had a bit of trouble in thinking of a good looking lord miniature that looked like a Techpriest by still looked…. Necrony? Luckily I came up with this dark mysterious miniature that supports my warrior squads at the far back of the field.

    The Harbingers (Immortals)

‘The Harbingers are the creation of the Third Zanatorian Knight Zethos being a master strategist Zethos rarely set foot of the battlefield and controlled his forces from his ship in the same way someone who play a game of chess. He designed the Harbinger to be a unit that could win a battle without support from other machines such as the Dragoons and Strikers, and be able to deploy directly into battle to strike and the enemy’s weakest point.’

This was my favourite conversion out the lot it looked unique and was not bad considering it was made from metal, I looked forward to create more squads of them… then the GW bits discontinuation hit without warning so this is the only one that will likely ever be made.

    The Dragoons (Warriors)

‘Designed by the fifth Zanatorian Knight Proiteus Kruger the Dragoon was originally created to support Machine Lords during their crusades across space. A machine featuring both bio and cybernetic components and armed with a powerful electrical weapon, this supported by the Dragoon’s anti-grav generator and built in self repair systems has earned it the task of being the Zanatorian army’s core infantry unit.’

This is where the idea of the Zanatorian Machine Cult started from, a robotic character for ‘Inquisitor’ Inquisitor Model Dragoon by *Proiteus on deviantART The Warriors were the hardest to covert they either looked too much like a heavy battle droid from star wars or something from IROBOT they just didn’t look unique so I decided to use my old Dragoon design.
Fortunately it not too badly effected by the bits change as I am currently creating a replacement for the Tomb Spyder head out of green stuff: Dragoon Mk2 Redesign by *Proiteus on deviantART

    The Striker Tank (Destroyers)

    [/CENTER]
“During a war for resources against the Ork Speed Freaks the Zanatorians found themselves easily out maneuvered by the Ork’s small and swift vehicles and hit and run tactics. To counteract this the 7th Machine Lord Obsidian created the Striker tank like the enemy these vehicles were lightly armored but fast and armed with the ‘Giga Cannon’ the Strikers quickly turned the tide against the Ork forces.”

All plastic, cheap, easy to build and look fantastic! I’m currently creating heavy variants and a destroyer lord.

    The Mobile War Factory/Citadel (Monolith)
    STILL WORKING ON

“One of the most feared weapons of the Zanatorians are their well armed Mobile War Factories often proving invulnerable to most weaponry, it powerful ‘Ion Matrix’ can either teleport a unit to safety or build up massive amounts of energy before unleashing it on a chosen target.

For this conversion I plan to use two Monolith bases and sandwich the parts from the Manufactorum building in between them mounting the turrets on the top half with the powerful tesla coil like weapon built in the middle. With any luck this will be one of the best models I’ve ever made.

    Iron Forger (Tomb Spyders)
    STILL WORKING ON

This idea is still up on the drawing board so far I plan to use the tomb Spyders legs and a Tau drone to create the lower body: Tau Online - Crayfish I also plan to use the Spyder’s arms problem is, what to use a torso that would fit and suit the lower torso, suggestions anyone?

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I hope you’ve liked the look of some of my models and army fluff and it would be a great help to me if you answer the following question…

“How would you react to this army, would you get at all confused by the warrior conversion?”

With the new 5th edition rules a warrior army is bound to be more effective than a destroyer one, but it really relies on how people reach to my warriors. Also I may even consider a C'tan in the form of a Avatar of the Machine God.

    Woah...

I see no problems with your fluff and, as for your models...

You have just enough of the Necron feel mixed in to make it clear where the technology is coming from, yet still have a very distinct and seperate feel.

    VERY well done.

Edit: I don't see much confusion arising from these conversions, since they all seem to fairly represent the statistics of the original necron units they have replaced.

Excellent work! Without being told prior I'd be hard pressed to tell that the dragoons play as warriors though as Zarak said they are very ingenious and after mentioning which model represents which, they appear to be even more alike to their GW counterparts.

I also really like the idea of a mobile war factory and am looking forward to seeing if you expand the C'tan idea any more. It certainly has potential.

    The MkII Dragoon

I've finished work on the actual model for the replacement design for the warrior, what do you think of it?

The warrior replacement looks great, and i think my favourite model is the harbinger, 'cause it's just so cool. The destroyers do look a bit too necrony if you se what i mean.

I was a bit worried when someone said yesterday in a GW store that the dragoon model (mk2) didn't look neither necron or mechanicus related!?!

    Thoughts anyone?

I think i've found the perfect scarab swarm model for my mechanicus cult, the Chaos Dreadclaws assault pods from Forgeworld for BFG, they come in packs of 10 for £6 so not problem getting a good number of them.

What do you think? I'm been considering ditched my immortals for something to throw against enemy assault units to avoid them charging more important units?

Just thought I'd let you guys know that I've started a detailed production log for this army in the modelling section. Just click the link below.

I'd be very grateful for any feedback from other Necron players?
