Thread: Super Sneaky Tomb Spyder Trick

  1. #1

I was thinking of a way to get around the fact that any scarabs produced by a Tomb Spyder actually severely weaken the TS against shooting attacks. What about putting the scarab swarms (created by the TS) behind the Tomb Spyder.

The Tomb Spyder is a Monstrous Creature and blocks line of sight, so any hits/wounds would have to be taken from the TS, as it would be the only thing that could be hit in the squad (assuming that the enemy did not have LOS to the scarabs).

Granted, this would only work with one, maybe two scarab swarms, and would be useless against template weapons, but would this "trick" be legal?

well...it might....but the fact that the spyder and scarabs are a single unit might put a serious crimp in it. Not to mention that the first person you played against with that would probably smack you. Here's another "idea". If you make your scarabs move in circles around your tomb spyder while it moves 6" so that they move 18+" do they count as turbo boosting?

Sorry but no. To be turbo boosting and get the inv save the model has to have moved 18" away from the starting point. Sure it has moved in a circle but if you measure a straight line from where it ends up and where it started it would only be 6" rather than 18".
Don't worry, it's only kinky the first time...

What if you deployed your tomb spyders together... thus that's... 14"...

Ah well, I tried! The only way you can have a scarab with your spyder and not have it's stats used, is if it is behind it, and your Tomb Spyder is just in range. Thus only it can be targeted. Not very likely though!

Edit: if you are determined to get that 5+ invulnerable save, place 3 tomb spyders with a destroyer lord joined to the squad. If you add it up, thats 18" from the left scarab to the right scarab if everything is placed 2" away and each base is 2" (all those big flying ones).add in that 6" move your spyder will do and you get a grand total of 18.9" (math can finally be applied! Thank you, ancient greek philosophers!) But, it is still JUST a 5+ save you always get.

Further Edit: you can push about 24" if you move everything horizontally! 18" distance, add on the 6 " move and you got 24"

    S 2" T(2") 2" T(2") 2" T(2") 2" L(2") 2" (End scarab)+6" (movement) = 24"

Nice try but you must end your move at least 18" from where you started. If you are really that worried about the spyder then simply do not make scarabs.
The enemies of the Emperor fear many things. They fear discovery, defeat, despair and death. Yet there is one thing they fear above all others. They fear the wrath of the Space Marines!
