    Necron Master

OK, this another of my "attempts" at getting some leadership for 400/500 point Combat Patrol Forces.

I tried it by using a Wargear item "Orb of Command", now I've decided to go with a specific figure:

    Necron Master 0-1 @ 50 points

Staff of Light, may upgrade to Warsycthe for 10 points

May take up to 50 points of Wargear

    Stats:

    WS4, BS4, S4, T5, W2, I3, A2, Ld10, Sv3+

So somewhere between the favoured Immortals and the Lord himself (as it were).

(Is it me or does the Lord seem overpriced cf the Immortals??)

I also finally fixed on my Scarabs - I like the idea of a huge silver carpet scuttling ahead, but of course you can't use them in CP

So rather than a specific variant I decided to re-jig them for all my armies:

Scarabs @ 8 points a base. Min 4, Max 12 bases per Unit.

May take a disruption field at 2 points per base

    Stats:

    WS2, BS0, S3, T3, W2, I2, A2, Ld10, Sv3+

-i liked the orb of command idea better than this, i would just use that guy in order to get a res orb for cheaper, even in larger games.

-i don't see the point in these new scarabs, they do basically the same thing as the old ones, and are the same wounds and attacks/ points, but insta-kill weapons will do much less, and their save is much better. thus you have pointlessly improved an already very good unit.
Procrastination- hard work often pays off over time, but laziness always pays off now.
Indifference- it takes 43 muscles to frown, and 17 to smile, but none to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

    -Votewar 40K III= 1st place
    -Votewar 40k mini= 2nd place
    -Votewar fantasy 2= 2nd place

actually a standard scarab swarm has 3 wounds, making it ineligable for combat patrol games (what with there being a 2 wound limit and all), and I personally think it's a good idea in some ways but I also think it's a bit cheezy to customise units like that for such a specific purpose.
All in all, I don't have a major problem with it (it'd work for my cron army) but it could only work in friendly games.

I thought I'd only reduced the Wounds and Attacks from 3 to 2 - if I altered the Sv that was mistake

I think it's less "customizing" units than quibbling over the initial stats to start with.

Scarabs are supposed to be this silver carpet scuttling ahead of the Necron Legions.

To my mind that means they should be plentiful, cheap and easily crushable- like swarms of metallic locusts.

As you say W3 means none in CP - which seems to spoil their ethos imo.

Yeah, Necron Master as opposed to Orb of Command - good argument against - it means you get powerful wargear at a cheaper price - hadn't thought that one through had I!!

    Back to drawing board

OK - finished at Drawing Board.

How about this - quite often for CP we end up taking an Elite Choice as an HQ Choice, since the Pariah is the C'Tan's "next phase" - how about a:

Pariah Leader - identical stats but +1w for 12 points and acts as independent character?
