Default Lighting Field for LORD worth the points?

How useful it is? It doing any real damage in cc or it is not strong inought?
Strengh 3 for me looks ridikulous.

I am going to sound like a broken record but imagine if you had a squad of scarabs (full) and a destroyer lord. Give the lord LF and charge into combat. Your squad will have 33 wounds to get through to finish it in h2h assuming you dont charge st6+. Now everytime one of those 33 wounds gets taken you get a st3 hit back at whatever is attacking you. This may not be the best against SM as their toughness + power armor will resist it well. Charge it against a huge squad of Orcs, or Gaunts, or even Tau and watch the lightning fly!

I have tried this a bunch, mostly against Tau and the field pays for itself after only a model or two gets shocked to death.

I'd never thought of sending a lightning lord in with the scarabs- damn that's cheeky!!

If you're going to join a unit of scarabs make sure it's a Destroyer Lord so you don't lose the Turbo Boost ability. Personally I prefer to keep my lord unattached to any unit so the lightning field is practically useless IMO.

I used that tactic and just crushed an Eldar player. He was shocked!

Then next game I played against space marines, and he used all his firepower on my swarms, taking two turns of shooting to kill them all while my Immortals and Warriors chewed him up.

Do not use against an army that has a lot of ord weapons (flame too).

This trick will work, and you WILL get your points back for the field.

I have used it with a 20 squad of Warriors, that worked well too, but not as fun.

Thank you all.
I make my decision, if a thing is useful just sometimes, then for my universal army it is vaste of points. Better i drop two scarabs swarms ant lighting field, instead i can take one destroyer.

it is useful against tyranids as you can kill half of the guants that attack your lord due to thier toughness 3 stats.

I have read that the VOD can teleport lord and one unit only 12" in any direction, does it right?

PygmyHippo is getting kicks on route LXVI

Nope, it allows a full deepstrike move, as described by the regular deepstrike rules in the main rulebook: no range restrictions. Many people like to move 12" or less away so that they can still be in rapid fire range, but they can move shorter or greater distances if desired.
