    500 pt. Necron Armylists plz look!

    List 1:

    HQ: Necron Lord w/ rez orb

    Troops: 2X 10 Warriors

    Total: 500 points

    ------------------------------------------------------

    List 2:

    HQ: Necron Lord

    Troops: 2X 10 Warriors

    Fast Attack: 3X Scarab Swarms

    Total: 496 points


    Which do you think is a better list, and does anyone think that they have a better list?

    It depends who do you want to fight with which list to choose. I would suggest the first one but with a little modification. If you will be playing for 500p it would be better to take a lighting field and for example gaze of flame instead of rez orb. The small army of your opponent will probably do not have units that have instant death weapons. so you pay for something that will be partly useless.

    I personally like beefing up my lord for a 500 point game.

    Giving him an orb is too slow for me. So I give hive a Dbody.

    Then I can give him a chronometron (ehh, not so good for one model units) or a warscythe (good if against a vehicle (prob only one) or some invulnerability filth)

    The nice thing is that the Dlord is practically invulnerable to small arms fire. A marine player can only take two squads and a few heavy weapons. Guardsman can take more heavy weapons, but the lord will completely dominate in cc. Eldar have some good weapons, but while the lord is keeping one squad occupied, the warriors can move up under less fire. Tau will have a very hard time killing the Dlord. Orks have a chance in cc, so I suggest you use the lord as a long lasting speed bump (ouch, a power claw).

    Just remember to use your mind when deciding what to do. While 500 pnt lists are small, you can figure out your opponents strategy very fast, even on the first or second turn. And they can change it just as quickly.

    List 1 is the ONLY 500 point necron army worth taking (basically because you get the res orb).

    The sad fact is, a lord always needs a res orb unless you are taking a Dlord as a second HQ.

    Swap out res orb and add destroyer body and warscyth. This way if he has any tough dudes with invulnerable saves then you can kick the crap out of them and rack in an advantage. Basically with this you get a fast moving CC lord so you have strengths in both shooting and CC. Scarabs wont do much and they dont count towards phase out so I would ignore them.

    I'd take the Second List, with the scarabs.

    Main reason: Mobility. With the bugs you can tie up a valuable unit for some time while your warriors go after other targets. Against Imperial Guard, the scarabs will even put some hurt on the unit you assault with them. 9 Wounds are not so easily annihilated in cc.
    2nd reason: more Units on your side means you offer more Targets and will hopefully be able to divert some fire from your valuable warriors.
    3rd reason: taking the initiative. If you force your Opponent to acknowledge the threat of the scarabs, you can build up some pressure and force him/her to play your way.

    Don't even consider swapping the Staff of Light for a Scythe. In a 500pts Game, you will need the DS3 shooting attack the staff offers.

    The only problem with not taking a Res orb at 500 points is the opposing enemy only needs to down 16 Necrons to win. If they have even 1 S8 or higher template weapon, you can pretty much just forfeit the game right there. Hell, enough Missle Launchers will turn the tide on you very quickly. The Lord would be better used to try and keep the Warriors alive so they can move across the board to get into firing range.

    Granted, a Battle Cannon or Earthshaker can and will ruin your day. As for the missle Launcher, that's when the scarabs come in handy. A unit tied up in cc with your little bugs won't be doing much shooting.

    The trick is getting 3 scarab bases into HtH with the Missle Launchers. Since they are the fastest unit, and the Warriors aren't going to be in range for a turn or two, the enemy could wipe out the Scarabs and then concentrate on the Warriors.
