Searchy has failed me =(.

It has been proposed in a local circle that since there is only one 'Destroyer' unit type that Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers count as the same type of necron. That is, a wiped out Destroyer unit could make WBB rolls because of a Heavy Destroyer within 6". This seems off to me, because would the Destroyers then not mob up into the Heavy unit forming a 'mixed' Destroyer unit?

Destroyers and heavy destroyers are selected from different entries in the codex, so are not the same type of unit (despite the name).

So destroyers cannot repair if all that's within 6" is a heavy destroyer.

Where do they get that idea?

The Necron Codex has separate entries for Destroyers and Hvy Destroyers, as they occupy separate FOC slots. The only thing they share is their basic statline, but that isn't enough to make them the same unit type, even if the summary only lists "Necron Destroyers".

Even the Existing Unit Types-tables in the 4thEd book (p87 in Macragge, P264 of BGB) lists Destroyers and Hvy Destroyers separately.

Maybe so, but I believe infinitely more important is the fact both Rork and I brought up, that the Codex lists them as distinctly separate entities... Usually if there are discrepancies between the army list and the summary, one should follow the army list.

Nevertheless, hope you get the situation sorted out! 8Y

Do you mean on page 22 of the codex? That's a fair point and I can see why people would argue in your favour but I'm going to agree with the majority here- they don't count as the same unit type for WBB. They're different untis, with different titles, costs and sections in the army list.

Those summary pages are notoriously erroneous too.

Are flayed ones the same as immortals? both are infantry.

No they clearly are not.

The necron rule is there so the same type of necrons stick together.

Thus flayed only grant WBB to other flayed ones, destroyers for other destroyers, heavy destroeyrs for heavy destroyer and so on and so fourth.

In the "cut and paste" updates which were issued in White Dwarfs a while (quite a while!) back, the WBB rolls rules were 'added to' a little. The following sentence was included:

"Additionally, the self-repair ability only works if the wounded Necron is within 6" of another model of the same type" (emphasis mine)

Remember that the Necron codex is a 3rd Edition codex, so the meaning of "Type" has changed. In 4th Ed, the Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers are classed under the "Type" of 'Jetbike'. In 3rd Ed, this classification did not exist and unit type was designated through Heavy Support, Fast Attack or whatever.

Apart from this, it was FAQed that Destroyers could not use Heavy Destroyers to initiate WBB, or vice versa, since they were not the same thing at all according to the List Entry.
