January starts a new year.

And at our local gaming store we are doing a slow but steady 250 points a month must be fully painted ect ect.

Daemonhunters is one of the armys at the top of my list.

Can any one give me some tips and tricks on what to start with.

I know i want a pure Grey Knight force. but i wont be painting them grey

Thinking a off black with scorpian green bits.

So any tips and info would be awesome.

Thanks :D

The problem, Gingerfish, and the reason why a lot of Daemonhunter players get bristly when you mention that the Grey Knights might have turned, is that it says right in the Codex that the Grey Knights are the only force to never, ever, under any circumstances, no arguing, fall to chaos. Period. Cut, dry print, period. If you take that away from us then any loyalist daemonhunter you game with will feel it as a slap in the face (If they're fluff warriors, such as myself) because it puts a black stain on the entire chapter if even one strike team becomes tainted. :)

That having been said, you can paint them with all the colors of the rainbow, call them the hippie knights, and claim they're a pascifist-aggresive branch of the Grey Knights that turned to chaos after being infected with genestealer cult viruses and embracing the Tau way of life, half rebuilt with necron technology and driving around with their own personal webway straight into the black library, where they meet with their 21st primarch and have tea with all the chaos gods and their squat buddies for all I care. :) Cannon fluff is nothing more then a framework that you can write with, around, or even in spite of. If you want some chaos Grey Knights, take some chaos Grey Knights. Just don't expect anyone to acknowledge your fluff as legit. ;)

ROFLMAO, thats some rich stuff..... i gotta make an army like that :p.

500pts right? well a brother captain, and 2 squads of 6 GKs is almost 500, with points left over to spend as upgrades.

but if your just starting.... grab a DH termie model and a box of GKs (or blisters if yo really just wanna try out the models before you go all out)

if you like them, expand the squad with more blister and grab a GK box..... and maybe a model worth representing that brother-captain (the BC from the Gk termie box rules)

after that expand as you like..... all GKs is intimidating to face at low point games and nasty (but easier for enemys to handle) at higher games.

In a points list that low, there's really only one viable option for a Psycannon: Put it on a Brother Captain and have him use the Indepndent Charcter rules to their maximum potential. He basically turns into an untargetable walking heavy bolter/autocannon. Any more psycannons would take away from valuable points that could be spent putting more knighty goodness on the field.

Without posting points costs, I also want to point out that between a Brother Captain and two bare minimum squads of Grey Knights, your remaining points are very limited. Those psycannons could be swapped out for a pair of terminators for your BC's retinue (as long as you arent playing 40k in 40 minutes rules), and at 500 points three terminator armored units can walk through just about anything. Conversely, you could always decrease your risk in combat and round out a few of those PAGK squads, giving you a little more leeway for the ever-present terrible dice rolls.

Bottom line, IMHO psycannons don't really shine until you hit the 1000+ point limits. Before then you simply have too many expensive units to purchase to spare the points.

Another option is to pick up a boxed squad of Storm Troopers and a pair with plasma guns or meltas. Then you have a 100-ish point Troops choice to fill compulsary. That gives you some flexibility and warm bodies for a list. A squad of 10 Storm Troopers with heavy weapons, a squad of 10 PAGK, and a BC with Psycannon comes out to 486 points, IIRC. But yes, definitely pick up the codex.
