Hey guys I just started woodelves today actually, and I sat down with my army book (incredibly well written imo) and plotted out a 2000 point list that I think would be quite fun to model/paint and play with as it seems quite competative.
Lords and Heroes: Treeman Ancient
A Cluster of Radiants
An Annoyance of Netlings
Wood Elf Noble
Battle Standard Bearer
Moonstone of the Hidden Ways
Light Armor
Elven Steed
Its your first day of WEs, and the first thing you've come up with is the Dual Tree / BSB army... ooh people aren't going to like you
If you're playing tournaments and want to win, then sure, go with it. If you want a list for friendly play, then feel free to use it, but you wont make many friends, and you'll only get to play against most people once.
For tourneys, it seems like a pretty good list overall.
Out of curiosity, what armies have you played before? And what were they composed of? PM me if you like, just so as not to take this thread off track.
Yep, what Phoenix said. If this is what you came up with on your first try, I don't think you are really going to need help making army lists. Nothing wrong with the list if you are going for really competitive.
I would suggest an alter noble with Helm of the Hunt+Great Weapon and HoDA to replace your BSB, this makes it so your list doesn't quite seem quite so "cheesy" (God, I hate that term, but oh well) by not adding the BSB factor to your 2 treemen.
It also gives you a useful hero character to support other units with both his HoDA and in Close Combat.
On the other hand, if you are going to be doing alot of tourneys without a comp restriction then by all means stick with the BSB.
I think you could also save some points by just leaving the Spellsinger as a Level 1 caddy. Either that or drop the glamourweave and the heartstone and just give her a dispel scroll and calaingor's staff to help your ancient out with treesinging.
I imagine he plans on doing it the same as any other WE player . There isn't much that can hide a Large Target walking tree. I personally would put a tad more emphasis on treesinging to try to keep terrain between the treemen and artillery that might kill them.
All i can see that i would change is your wizards. The level 2 would be better served by having calaingor's stave and dispel scroll. Two castings of Treesinging with 2 dice is great. do them after your three bound spell ones from your treemen and they will really have to commit dispel dice to them. You'd be surprised how often players let Treemen bound treesinging through.
It may sound risky but i don't know if you need the lv1 scroll caddy, the 140pts could get you another unit, very important in a double treeman list as you are always down on numbers. 4 Dispel dice will get you through the worst, with the scroll ready for the dastardly attack from your opponent (BEWARE PIT OF SHADES). Just go for spellcaster assassination early, so that the game can then run more at your pace.
As for the BSB, im guesssing he runs in the wardancers, and wardancers hang near the Treemen. Deadly.
Bound spells are automatically cast as if you had rolled the power level of the spell on a D6.
