The Rhino: What makes it go?

Okay, first up, I feel I should apologise for this thread, as it's largely pointless and quite likely doesn't have an answer. But it's just... really... bugging me!

So I have to ask.

Backstory first; I'm planning some kind of conversion, which is still a long way off happening for the moment, but it will involve the Space Marine Rhino chassis and a reasonable amount of modification to the inside of the vehicle. I've been running things through my head, trying to work out if this conversion is indeed feasible, looking at some images of the Rhino's interior, when I came across an odd conundrum.

There's no room for an engine.

You have the passenger area in the rear. Up the front there is usually a hatch with a pintle mounted weapon (commander's hatch), and a second hatch beside that which I presume the driver sits under. Leaving no room for the engine.

I thought that maybe the engine could be situated along the sides of the vehicle, but it obviously can't go between the exhaust pipes because then you'd have to walk through the engine to get out!

The only option seems to be that there may be multiple engines right in the corners of the vehicle, but there's not a lot of room there and that solution just seems too complicated.

I know I'm trying to apply real-world logic to a fictional universe, and I know there are scale issues with GW products so things aren't always the size they should be... but it's just something I've got into my head and can't dislodge.

I'm just looking for anything anyone has that could suggest some form of solution to why a rhino needs four exhausts if it doesn't in fact have anything connected to the other end. Maybe there's some obscure info out there that actually answers my question.

Alternatively, I'm happy with people suggesting this is a stupid question which is wasting space on the forum.

Thanks for reading,

You may want to pick up a copy of Index Astartes IV - it's got the article on the Predator in the back, complete with a cutaway view with all sorts of labels.

Now granted, the Predator gets to be much more liberal with its hull space since there's no passengers, but they're all built from the basic Rhino chassis so the diagram ought to hold true regardless.

It shows the engines as being 4 small units, each one the size of a large beer fridge, tucked in at the base of each exhaust stack. And there's also some funny stuff like the little hand lever beside the driver's seat, marked "Manual Momentum Cancellation Control"... Huh - didn't think tanks came with one of those...;)

"Manual Momentum Cancellation Control" - That's too funny!

Oh, it's fun to laugh at the Imperium and their poor grasp of technology. I remember reading something about starting a tank, which was this massive ritual that culminated in...

"press the activation rune"

Back on topic... who would have thought. There it actually an answer! Thanks Wraith!

I always liked to think that the troops being transported stick their feet through holes in the bottom and propel the vehicle "flintstone" style.
