So Ive started the Daemons recently and see that they have a ton of unmodeled unit that are in the book but no where to be bought from GW.. What are people using for their heralds, blue scribes, changeling, Skarbrand, fateweaver, KuGath, Seekers, and Daemon princes. Did I miss any./? It looks like im going to have to turn toward reaper or another line to play something close.
Some are not too terribly difficult. I just pictured the heralds to all be the regular Daemons with some extra detail work (or on their various mounts). So just Pink Horrors, Daemonettes, etc. The Seekers have really really old models (though they don't look much like current Daemonettes). Kairos is just a two-headed Lord of Change (the kit comes with 2 heads and necks) and Skarbrand is basically a Bloodthirster without wings. The Blue Scribes are two Horrors on a Disc (which could be a tailless Screamer or the disc from the WHFB Lord of Tzeentch).
The worst one would probably be Kugath, trying to model a Greater Unclean One "reclining" on some giant Palanquin. I'm sure you'd probably be fine on the Daemon Princes using Chaos SM Daemon Princes, using the various greater daemons (a GUO looks pretty good), or some other monster, maybe from Fantasy.
All in all, I don't think you'd have too many problems modeling most of those things. There area couple that'd be a pain (particularly Seekers) but I'm currently assembling a Daemon army, and I'm absolutely terrible at all things modeling and conversion related, and I'm not having too hard a time.
I will be using this model for use as The Changeling (as soon as it is re-based).
One could argue that with all those bones sticking out, it is better suited for Nurgle than Tzeentch. But I imagine the model in the act of shape-shifting: first growing bones, then the flesh, muscle, sinew and stuff growing around/creeping up on the bones, eventually forming into a new shape. Kind of Hellraiser-style but at an accelerated rate.
for my Herald i got the WHFB Sorcerer of Chaos and Mounted him on a Screamer (flying disc) and my Changeling is the Sorcerers Familiar but i lovin the look of manticores modal. i dont know what im going to do for my Blue Scribes yet as for Fateweaver im happy to see this and will be doing the same soon. http://www.librarium-online.com/forums/modelling/129308-fateweaver-oracle-tzeentch.html
I converted my Changeling from the Fantasy Chaos Sorcerer. I think it fits well. I based it on the artwork in the book, though mine is not sending a text message.

Very nice Changeling, Orange!! The Only thing I could say against it is that the Changeling is actually 2 Blue Horrors of Tzeentch, and as such... your skin color might be a bit off on that But.... anyway, who knows, maybe he was in a yellow mood that day

Wow some great ideas and conversions going on. That's one thing I love about this hobby, even stuff that is modeled, leaves room for the imaginative hobbiest. I'm looking forward to converting some heralds on chariots personally.
One thing to keep in mind about making models from scratch. To be tourny legal the model must be at least 50% GW parts, primarily 40k and WHFB. I don't think licensing allows the use of LOTR stuff. So try to keep conversions using stuff from those two main game lines.
That is a decent looking seeker. As for Seekers, I will be using the Slaanesh fast cavarly models they released a little while back. They are Nettes mounted on fast, sleek looking mounts. No pics atm, I am at work. I was also thinking of using the Chaos Sorcerer with the hood and cloak for the Changeling, I think that is the model in the conversion pic posted.
They are releasing new seekers sometime in 2009, i believe. and as far as Ku'gath is concerned, the Forgeworld model looks pretty similar, but you may not want to spend that much money.I made my Changeling out of some green stuff, and parts from the WE Dryad Sprue; The runed arms are very similar to the Changeling's pics in both the Chaos Daemons and Daemons of CHaos books (yes, there are two different pictures)
As for Skarbrand, I have seen some wicked conversions using the GW LotR Balrog as a base. Its not tourney legal, but it ends up looking really good, its what my brother is going to end up doing for his Skarbrand.
Why is it not tourney legal? It is still a GW model. Here in Australia I think it doesn't matter if it is mostly GW merchandise (ie: they are still makeing money). Are the rules different elsewhere?
GW has a strange and limiting copyright license as far as Lord of the Rings is concerned. They are VERY limited on what they can do with the models, which is basically promote Lord of the Rings.
That idea of using the Be'lakor model as a bloodthirster... I love it!! My friend is giving me one (im going to force money on him) and i was going to use it as a second daemon prince, it would look amazing as a bloodthirster though, the model now does suck ass! Thanks alot!
