I was planning to have a choir list for my Tyranids. Other than Zoanthropes what do you find useful in combat for a choir list. Also what Tyrant builds do you find well suited for a choir list. Any feedback would be useful

Thanks:cat:

Well, you can give psychic scream to HT as well. So if you have a walking tyrant you can give it to him (I keep warp field on my flyrant). Another good addition if you know you're going against psychers is shadow in the warp. Nothing like watching your eldar player pick up his three dice to roll for doom only to tell him he needs to put one down and that he has roll 6 or under in order for that power to work.

As for what builds to use on an HT, well the psychic choir doesn't really go well with one list over another. Think about things that would cause Ld checks. Barbed stranger shots will pin more often, but that's really all I can think of. I mean psychic choir really just enhances whatever you have. Remember to keep those thropes together though. You loose effectivness if only one of them is in range.

Well I always run a psychic choir army, and what has been mentioned above is all very true, barbed stranglers are very much your friend, getting into CC and forcing LD tests that way also works well. Personally I always run 2 tyrants with psychic scream (1 CC flyrant and 1 TL-Dv walking tyrant) then 3 zoanthropes with PS & synapse. I always field my zoes like this because it helps to keep them alive and provides great support to my army. Since they don’t have warp blast they are just moving along to provide passive support and rarely will they be targeted because of it. I have found that having my choir alive is far more effective then the highly unreliable warp blast shots from the zoes.

After that I always field 2 sniper fexes…this is both for anti tank power and to provide me with 2 good barbed stranglers to pin with if needed. I have also recently been experimenting with an elite barbed strangler fex but am not completely sold on it yet.

I personally like a lot of troops with my choir to get into CC and do some damage so I usually throw out 3x15 gaunts and 2x10 stealers to make use of the choir’s effect.

Anyway that is the basis of how I use it and it is highly effective.

I ran a Choir army for the first time the other day (split 56% Nids 44% DE) and stacking Scream and Dark Eldar things like Horrorfex or Xenospasms was great! the poor Tau/SM guy had 1 round of shooting then EVERYTHING was pinned:sinister:

I think the ability became a staple in my army. Beyond the fun telling of the story... yeah Barbstranglers are perfect to pair up with. I actualyl brought a double Barb fex over the normal Sniper (BS/VC) and managesd to have one shot drift onto another firewarrior squad pinning two with on model. I would almost recamend taking a fex with just two BS, but that is in part due to the venom cannon being less potent, and it would depend on who you usually play.

Taking two barbed stranglers dosn't let you fire them both it just makes the one barbed strangler twin linked, and personaly with the new scatter rules I think that it is even less effective to twin link them then in the past.

But... how do you twin link a template? I understand that would be the way it would work in 4th what with how it could MISS but... in 5th, unless I missed something big, how would you fire them as twin linked? Heck I would almost fire them as a barrage. I guess I'll ask a red shirt later.

I run both a flying and a walking tyrant with screams. The flying tyrant is great for applying a bit of extra screamage wherever it may be needed.

You'll have to decide what you want to do about synapse. Either get the zones with synapse and scream or else go for a synapse-less list and go zones with warp blast and genestealers as your troops. The later works well with nidzilla, but in 5th is very weak to an opponent targeting your troops.

Template weapons reroll the rolls to wound rather then the rolls to hit; however, these are blast weapons not template weapons. See page 30 of the 5E rule book for how to reroll the dice for a blast weapon, it is still just twin linked and you reroll the scatter dice & the 2d6 both if you don’t like the first result.

I still say that a TL BS is not worth paying the cost for...give me a single BS & a VC any day on my carnifex.

An interesting idea, in relation to 5th edition, would be to combine a Choir with a close combat oriented list. Keep the Choir close behind your deadly CC units, preferably running, and then engage in close combat. If you beat your opponent by even one wound, they'll have to take a leadership check at their base leadership, minus the amount of wounds they lost by, minus the number of choir models in range. This way you'll be making many units run from close combat regardless of their great leadership values, and then with the superior initiative of most of your models, you'll catch them and eat them.
