I do not know much about the Harkoni Warhawks, but in the guardsman box, if you are refering to the Cadian Shock Troops, contain the basic flak armor, there are upgrades for some special weapons, but none for carapace armor.
you dont and dont worry about it cause if you say you have carapace armour and people see that you paid for the points then no one cares. See there is no exact look of carapace armour. It could vary from special chainmail to bulky plates of metal.
To me, they look more like stormtroopers than the cadian shock troops. The only thing is the confusion of stormtroopers actually being regular troops with lasguns. If you look at the pages which showcse the different paint schemes (p.27-28 ) In the bottom box on the right it shows the 31st Harakoni Warhawks. Maybe you could use that?
The box of cadian shocktroops is already equipped with carapace armor. You can look through the collector's area of the IG store to find examples of regiments without it.
if you're using them as just guardsmen with carapace, you'd probably be better off finding bits to convert plastic models than using the karskin stormtroopers. namely because the stormtroopers have limited options in variety of models (like one sgt and no heavy weapons) and it sucks using pewter in conversions.
some green stuff and plasticard can solve the carapace armor on regular cadian shock troops, maybe some elbow and knee pads and a groin protector.
forgeworld also has cadian heads w/ masked respirators available to help complete the look, for the backpack, maybe the 10*elysian gravchute packages.
for the special weapons, namely the melta gun and plasma gun which you can usually only get with those pewter cadian blisters, use regular guardsmen and order the gun bits (gw sells them in packs of 5 online),
and for a demo charge you can convert your own using bits (as an idea, i took a sgt's swordarm, filed the rank and left just the handle, then attacked two binos from the heavy support sprues minus the eyepiece but you use whatever you see fit).
thinking on all that, i'm almost tempted to convert my guardsmen army since i use all drop troops; but i think i'll hold off 'till i see the changes in the next ig codex.
Yep, that was what I was thinking Certemplar. Based on what you guys have said, I would buy some Cadian shock troops, I was going to replace their heads with the FW Elysian drop trooper heads with respirators, and then stick some of the Grav Chute packs onto them, also from FW. Maybe also try to make the shock troops have more solid looking armor.
the regular box just comes with flak armor, to add Carapace just use green stuff. To make Warhawks i would just use green stuff, or the more expensive way would be to us Karkisn(Sorry about Spelling) and replace there guns with regular las guns and Green Stuff there arms. or just make there Hell Guns look like las Carbines.
I'm told they're Bretonnia men-at-arm cloaked legs. I think if I combine all 3 (with some plasticard) I'll have some damn cool custom stormies/grenadies to be proud of. (And my wallet will be happy).
Well if you want to make Caraspace, in my opinion i suggest just buying some green stuff and making little shin pads or knee pads and painting up the color of your armor. I believe the regiment you considered seems really easy to convert however very difficult to create. First if i made them since they are considered a drop troop regiment, there are Imperial Guard Heads used for Vox Casters and i'd put those as heads. The Backpacks to show them that they are jet packs or what nots can be converted by snipping carefully on Space Marine Power Back Packs. As for fluff wise they're a cool regiment that i have no idea what history they have other than whats in the Codex. Hope it helps
