My 1500pts list needs altering, suggestions?

List is as follows:

Saint Celestine

10 Repentia + Mistress
- Priest with Carapace Armour, Eviscerator and Purity Seals
6 Arco-flagellants

10 Sisters with Vetran and 2 Stormbolters (3 identical units of these)

10 Seraphim with a Veteran with Power Weapon

6 Retributors with 4 Heavy Bolters and a Veteran with Auspex

For exactly 1500 points and 8 Faith Points.

I have no models as of yet (used to be a Witch Hunter player 2 years ago, now I'm starting from scratch) and in tallying up how much this army would set me back I realised Seraphim and Heavy Bolter Sisters cost WAY too much (cash wise), so I want to change the list a little, while still sticking to the main theme (no vehicles, lots of assaulty goodness).

I was thinking of dropping the Retributors completely and reducing the Seraphim to a much smaller, probably tank hunter, unit. Any ideas on what to do here would be appreciated. Cheers.

I'm a big fan of having armies that set themselves apart from the norm, and if you play just to have fun, then it's all good. However, if you absolutely hate losing, I would recommend trying a different route. As far as price goes, WH are all metal, which means we have one of the most expensive armies around. If you want to stay assaulty and keep the price down, you might consider going with Zealots. There aren't official minis for these, but you can just use flagellants from the WFB range...those guys are all plastic

You've got a bunch of units with really cool stats on paper, however they are a bit fragile on the gaming table. Repentia are really cool models, but their low toughness and save make it hard for them to survive long enough to attack, especially since they always attack last in an assault. Arcos are another cool unit that are very expensive and fragile. Some other units to consider are death cult assassins and an eversor. They're not quite as good now in 5th because you can't consolidate into combat anymore, but they're still killers when you get em into combat. I'm not sure if you consider a penitent engine a vehicle, but those guys are awesome in CC. If you're going to take em, take lots of them...though that's gonna hit your pocketbook pretty hard.

Wow, thanks for the help mate! I knew I came to Librarium for a reason. I dont even know where to begin replying now.

I've experimented with Repentia in the past (granted it was over 2 years ago since I have played) and from what I remember they actually held up a lot better than expected. The fact that they only have Ld6 if you kill off the Mistress and then they fall foward instead of backwards (helped by the Priest's Purity Seals) means they get into combat rather quickly. And now that they can 'run' in 5th edition they will get there even faster.

Believe me, I have definitely considered Zealots. I LOVE the idea of Zealots in fact, but I could never find any models to use for them. The White Dwarf that they are in shows a picture of their Zealots (using WFB Flagellants) and they looked terrible, so I didn't want to go that route. I'm looking at them now though and they look a lot different (and actually good) so I'm thinking they made new models for them since that White Dwarf? In that case, I guess I could go there, but any other suggestions for Zealot models?

Glad I could help! There are a few older discussions about what models to use as zealots...I think I remember someone mentioning empire militia and the redemptionist gang from the necromunda range. I'm still partial to the flagellants though. Nothing says zealots like an angry mob with torches.

I've toyed with the idea of a crazies list here and there, and I think zealots would fit well into it. Don't know how effective it would be, but it would be funny to field an inquisitor lord riding in a LR with a bunch of zealots marching in front like a human meat shield.

As far as your list goes, I would drop the sister squads in favor of zealots to keep with your assault theme. Anti-tank will be a problem, and switching your seraphim to 6-strong with infernos could help alleviate the problem. A jumpy cannoness could also help here. You COULD abandon your "no vehicles" rule and go with an exorcist... I don't remember how much zealots cost, but if you're going to footslog it, you're going to need a LOT of them. Maybe you could use your zealots as mobile cover for your more expensive units, kinda like grots for orks. A couple of assassins might also help tie up a few of your opponent's long ranged shooting units, so taking an inquisitor lord may help you out by allowing you to fill all your elite slots. On the other hand, assassins are really easy kill points. Decisions, decisions...I'm glad I'm not the one making this list lol

As much as I like the idea of completely dropping Sisters from the Troops slots (never found much use for your basic run of the mill Troop choice Sisters) and replacing them with multiple Zealot squads, unfortunately you cant. The Zealots entry in the WD says they cant be taken as your compulsory troop choices, so you still need 2 squads of Sisters or Stormtroopers.

I was almost definitely going to switch my Seraphim to a tank hunting unit, but then Celestine is left without a retinue. I loved the idea of Celestine rushing in with 10 Seraphim watching her back.

I will definitely be having 2 Exorcist's in my collection, they are my favourite vehicle in all of 40k by far, but they will be used in different army lists. This particular army list is a 'no vehicles' list, partially for fun, partially to mess with my mates who take loads of anti-vehicle weaponary, which would become near useless against this list.
