I mugged my local store manager for the data he's got on IG (Including valkerie instructions. nice.) and he had some nice snippets on the new releases. I inspected them thoroughly (after someone pointed out that the two standard varients can be used for the regimental standard or the platoon standard - The platoons are getting standards. Interesting.)
However, I was interested in the platoon bit that stated "buy our stuf blah blah, you will be able to deploy a 50 man infanty squad as one unit!" - since you don't take turns to deploy anymore, could they be refferring to a one unit platoon - thus one kill point?
Maybe the squads have to maintain a coherency (like 12") from the officer.
Well, that would make each squad a sub unit right? The old Schaeffer's list was divided into sub units as well and each subunit counted as one kill point. Unless the codex specifically states that this is the case (which would be sweet) wouldn't the usual interpretation just mean that they still count individually for kP?
When i first heard about this rumor I was very skeptical of it's validity, the idea of a large mob of infantry does not appeal to me.
However, it has been validated by numerous sources, so it looks like it will be in the new codex. Basically this is GW "fix" to KP for IG, turn our platoon into one "super unit".
1. This means 1 CC unit can tie up a whole platoon.
2. This will only be a real option if we have a commissar in the unit, as the chance of loosing the whole unit in 1 assault phase would be too great.
3. We will loose a lot of firepower due to the fact that we can not split fire.
4. blast/template weapons.
The only real benefits are that we reduce the number of KPs during KP missions, and that 1 order will boost a whole platoon.
I am holding out hope that there are some missing details in this rule that have not been leaked yet. Like the individual squads still remain separate but must remain close to each other (4"?) or need to be close to the officer.
But I guess merging a infantry squad w/ a special weapon squad, or other limited pairings (really don't like HUGE squads), would not be that bad... we'll see.
.... merging out infantry squads into larger squads is most likely the "KP fix"...
