Ok now I may be completely wrong with this but its idea I've had and I finally decided to voice it.
Is it possible for us to take Dogs of War in our list? From my perception of them they are not meant to be their own army but rather one that is paid by other armies to use their services. Since we dont have any ranged units is it possible to take some of their crossbow men to give us some range? I can see this not being possible because chaos is a big enemy of humans and it may not be possible to do.
fluffwise I could see it happening. Dogs of war are notorious for their buyable loyalty, and even though close combat orientated chaos Generals probably can see that sometimes you need some ranged support.
Taken from GW's Gav Thorpe (and quoted in our own FB rules help:
There's a variety of reasons for removing the reference to DOW in the forthcoming army books, and these are the main ones:
1. The rules detailing how to include DOW in an army are included in the DOW list/ articles. Therefore if you have access to those rules you have access to how they can be added to your army. 2. We may wish to revise the way DOW work in the future, and while we continue to perpetuate the current rules for them in the army books this will be very difficult to do. Our intent is that the DOW rules, should we produce a proper supplement, will be entirely self-contained and require no references in the army books.
This hardly states that you can't add DoW in your army list. It seems obvious that they are still legal.
ive started using leadblechers and ruglugs orcs recently (not in the same list) and had good succes with them in alot of my armies (BoC, WoC & O&G). leadbelchers go well with a hellcannon list as it makes a chaos army very shooty which my opponent didnt see coming.
Ive also got a unit of Mangel's Manhide Manflayers which have reapeter hand bows and scout special rule which make them a very suprising unit when you place it near a lone hero or something
Well if I look at this as a posibility for future lists do you guys think people will look down at me. Is playing DoW to fill your weaknesses considered a cheap move. I mean WoC arent given ranged models for a reason. Do you think enemies will scoff at us if we bring units like that to the table?
A famous quote goes as such... "Anyone who drives faster than me is a maniac, and anyone who drives slower is an idiot." No matter what you do, you will have opponents who won't like it.
Things that may help limit this though, and make it so only a small fringe minority scoff is as such...
1) Converting DoW models to fit your army (preferably well, but I'm not one to talk)
2) Having an army background that gives a well thought out reason to include them
3) Use a DoW army to help out your army, don't make a list centered around the mercenaries
4) Easy going attitude
Example:
Opponent: "Hey, are those crossbowmen in you Warriors of Chaos army?"
You: "Yeah, they're using the DoW rules and fill one of my rare slots."
Opponent: "That's kind of cheesy."
You: "Really? I just wanted to include some to represent a force of corsairs. Historically they were usually armed with some ranged weaponry like crossbows. That's why I used the marauder figures for them. I figure most of them will prefer axes and sabres, but a few would give off a few volleys as the attackers swarm in."
Opponent Response 1: "That's actually kind of cool."
Opponent Response 2: "Well, if I lose, then I'll blame your one unit of crossbows for my loss and call you a big cheater because that's how I roll."
And that sounds cool. I think it would be really cool to do a good conversion job on marauders with crossbows or normal bows.
This is tactically unsound but would be a great thing to do if you are superior to the people you play and know you can beat them.
You could have your chaos lord pay mercenaries with crossbows to help his army, but at the end of battle instead of paying the mercenaries he slaughters them to the last man. Have the mercenaries count as casualties and give the victory points to the enemy no matter what. I wouldnt do this unless you are good and know you can win consistently. Its a neat concept and would be cool to beat someone even when giving them points.
Maybe a dumb idea but I just thought of it and it fits chaos so well
really, I don't think crossbows will help much. The only DoW I could see worth taking are the DoW cannons. Leadbelchers I can see fluffwise. Crossbows wouldn't help our army much as far I can see. For the price, I'd rather have throwing ax fast cav.
I've actually had a whole lot of fun with Bronzino's Galloper Gun. It's a S7 24" cannon that moves 8", can march, and can flee charges. Excellent to play with Marauder Cav, and it comes with a decently fighty hero on a horse.
I have a copy of the DoW rules here, in case you're having trouble finding them. Note these are publicly distributed by GW and as such should be safe to pass around
I just feel like their is something wrong here. Having the ability for WoC to have two cannnons for 190 points seems like it shouldnt be possible. Cannons+magic could allow us to force the enemy to come to us. And who would expect that.
This all just seems odd and the fact that nobody has mentioned it before makes me worry. Im still waiting for someone to troll in and yell at me.
well, it's kind of like High Elves taking 4 giants in their rare slots. It may help them having all those terror causers, but it doesn't fit into the "feel" of the army really. They did give use the silly Hellcannon, but I'd probably prefer a DoW cannon over that one anyway. You could give it a demonic mouth and make the crew look like marauders and make it "fit" in your army, but it will always feel odd.
please don't take bronzino's unit. Just take 2 DoW cannons. They are cheap and effective. Bronzino's unit is terrible.
