1850 Trial Guard List

Hello everyone! I'm currently making guard lists so I can get the hang of Guard, so if you could shred this one up I'd be happy:

HQ: Company Command Squad, Power Fist, 4x Meltaguns. Chimera- 160

Elites: Psyker Battle Squad, 9 Psykers, Chimera- 165

Troops:
Infantry Platoon: 275
Platoon Command Squad, P. Fist- 50
Infantry Squad, Plasma Gun, Autocannon- 75
Infantry Squad, Plasma Gun, Autocannon- 75
Infantry Squad, Plasma Gun, Autocannon- 75

Veteran Squad, Carapace, Bastonne, 3x Meltaguns- 190
Veteran Squad, 3x Meltaguns, Chimera- 155
Veteran Squad, 3x Meltaguns, Chimera- 155

Fast Attack:
Valkyrie, MRPs- 130
Armored Sentinel, Plasma Cannon- 75

Heavy Support:
Leman Russ Battle Tank, Plasma Cannon Sponsons- 190
Leman Russ Battle Tank, Plasma Cannon Sponsons- 190

Total: 1850

All the Chimeras and the Demolisher have Hull Heavy Flamers, Bastonne's squad will be Outflanking/riding in the Valkyrie.

I like the list but there are a couple of changes that I would make. First I would drop the powerfists in the command sqauds. Waste of points, cause if you end up in combat you are dead anyway. Secondly I would drop bastone. The idea is cool , and I ran with him with vets and melta, but found that the squad works just fine without him. Personal opoinion though. Thirdly I would loose the carapace on the vets. Outflanking close enough to use meltas means that they attract alot of fire especially when they take out a prize target like landraiders or battlesuits etc and like all players tend to do, they will be targeted by alot of fire power or charged and won't survive anyway.

All up thats about 130 points saved right there. Actually perhaps change plasmas in platoon for grenade launchers = 30 points, Total 160 and add another vet squad in chimera with plasma. Or add another 2sentinels with plasma.

Unfortunately while the Vets may be easy to get, that extra Valk is not. Valks are the most expensive (Moola-wise) normal 40k unit currently and sadly with only 15 bucks a weekend from mowing lawns (Being 16 in an area with no real need for new employees sucks for starting a new army) there are other things that I've got as a higher priority. Like chimeras, for example.

This leaves me with 60 points leftover, I'm not sure what to spend them on. Would a mortar squad be good for pinning if used with the PBS?

Buy Plasma for the last Russ and upgrade the platoon command with a mortar and two sniper rifles. It will help pin an infantry squad to so they can't fire at your tanks for a turn. That being said, I'd switch the GLs for Snipers also. They have longer range, can pin, and can still glance AV12 if your are lucky. But more importantly, it has a chance of rending so that you can ensure another dead marine... Armored Sentinels are good, but if you replace them with scouts with Autocannons, you might be able to turn your demolisher into a Executioner (I think that is the x3 Plasma Cannon one). It will give you another Plasma Blast and allow your sentinels to outflack to maybe hit tanks in the rear armor or side armor. Plus sometimes you can charge them into an enemy squad like rangers and basiclly tie them up for the hole game.
