Hello all,
I played a 1,000 pt. objective game against my Necron friend. I ran the following list:
HQ w/ Chim, melta, 3 Grenade Launchers
2 PCS w/ 2 Flamers apiece
3 Infantry Squads w/ Grenade Launcher, Autocannon
3 Infantry Squads w/ Grenade Launcher, Lascannon
2 Leman Russ Battle Tank w/ Lascannon Hull, Heavy Bolter sponsons
My friend had something like: a Necron Lord, 2 squads of Warriors, Immortals, some Heavy Destroyers, and a few Scarab bases.
This is all off the top of my head so I apologize for lack of detail.
Turn One: After shooting all my long-ranged weaponry (AC's, LC's) and my due to some terrible scatters by the tanks, I only managed to kill a few Scarab bases and knocked over about 5 Warriors. My friend (he has RIDICULOUS 'stand back up' rolls all the time) got 4 of his 5 Warriors to get back up. He left one squad of Warriors on his objective and advanced with everything else. His 2 remaining Scarabs raced up close to my left flank with boosting.
Turn Two: My luck was a bit better here. My friend made the mistake during movement for my Leman Russ to have a clear shot at his Immortals (when he left one of his warrior squads back) and it paid off for me. All of the Immortals were vaporized by a direct hit from the Battle Cannon and Lascannon of a single tank. Due to heavy terrain on the board, I was only able to knock down one Heavy Destroyer and about 5 Warriors again. During my friend's turn, his Destroyer and 3 of the Warriors stood back up. My friend had Disruption Pods (or whatever it's called to attempt to hit a tank) on his Scarabs but missed. A round of shooting from his warriors and destroyers killed most of the front squad of Guardsmen. The squad broke and ran off the board.
Turn Three: The Leman Russ which had been assaulted by the 2 Scarabs on the left flank drove off in search of meatier targets. The Platoon Command Squad that had been lurking behind terrain nearby emerged, dousing the 2 Scarabs with flame templates and eliminating them. Toasty! Meanwhile, the Leman Russ and one infantry squad on the right flank ran behind some terrain to get closer to the objective (his objective was about 20" away at this point and was protected by a full squad of warriors). Shooting on the right flank to dislodge that warrior squad knocked over 2 and killed 1 warrior outright. Shooting up the middle knocked over about 5 warriors. During my friend's turn, he again had ridiculous stand-up rolls (by this point the squad had been knocked over 20ish times and he had only lost about 5 guys total). His Heavy Destroyers glanced my tank on the right flank and prevented it from shooting the next turn. Shooting from his warriors across the board killed a couple guardsmen in several squads, although none of the squads broke.
Turn Four: My one shooty Leman Russ missed completely with his Battle Cannon but managed to kill a Warrior outright with the Lascannon hull (cover save failed). Additional shooting knocked down a Heavy Destroyer and several warriors in both squads. My Chimera had moved within 12-18" of his objective. His turn's worth of shooting only resulted in 4 dead Guardsmen (I had some nice cover save rolls).
At this point the store was closing so we had to call it. I had lost one squad only and had a few weakened squads. Thank you cover! My Necron friend lost all his Immortals, all his Scarabs, and had two weakened Warrior squads. However, it was a draw as neither of us were able to contest objectives. I think I would have been able to contest his objective just by running my Chimera close the next turn, although I wouldn't have been able to dislodge his squad with only 2 turns remaining.
All in all, I was fairly pleased with my performance. Lascannons in infantry squads suck big time. Lascannon hulls are nice though. I got a lot of kills from Lasguns, surprisingly, although Orders have a lot to do with that. Leman Russes are awesome as are Chimeras.
Ok, I realized I typed a lot more than I expected. The End, haha. :soldier:
