This is my new bug, a Barbed Hierodule that I have been working on a for a while. It took several months off and on to paint this bug. It is different to paint other models because it is very big. I found that it required extra shading and highlighting to give it more depth. Doing a Barbed Hierodule was fun because I have rarely seen them, the Scythed Hierodule is more common. I did add some of the spikes from the Carnifex to the underside of it because I thought the underside was a bit blank. The spikes also help to fit with it's name having the word barbed in it.

I decided the base was big and with all that space it needed something special on it. I did a Tyranid swamp. I am going to put up a thread with swamp pics about that in the modelling section. Comments, questions and criticism welcome. Hope you enjoy.

Thankyou. You are both right that this one hasn't been scorpified. Not all my Tyranids get that treatment, just alot of them. Often if it hangs about with my other bugs it will start to look like them. The charictaristics that look vaguely scorpion-like such as the two guns positioned like claws will help it to fit in. I also didn't want to do too much to it because I like it how it is, also it is very detailed and any changes would need to equally detailed which is hard.

I will have to get better at sculpting first. Though I have thought about using some old Alien toy kits and converting them into huge gribbly types for my swarm. The detail on them is not as extreme so it would be easier. But the details are good, it's what I paid for. I will take a pic of all my bugs some time. I want to do more first though.
