somewhere on the net is information to carve shotguns out of lasguns. do a goodle search for warhammer 40k imperial guard shotguns or homemade warhammer 40k shotguns. i cant remember the name of my search but i did find it. when their is a will, their is a way.

My take on them is a bit easier (though less truly shotgun-esque)
I cut off the laser end of the barrel leaving the stub there, shorten the power pack by ~1mm, remove the bayonet mount and then gently carve off the aquilla (eagle insignia) from the face of the gun. This differentiates it enough for me and doesn't require any extra parts.

No idea why i didn't say this in my previous post. The way i did mine on my Kasrkin models was to remove the barrel, cut two barrels off of normal lasguns and model them onto the Hotshot. Why do shotguns have to be slug weapons? Surely you can have a short ranged rapid firing Las Carbine thing!?!

Storm Laspistols anyone?

While I generally worked with the basic lasgun conversion mentioned by a few people previously, however I made a pretty nice version earlier using a bolter, which I'll try and get a picture up of tomorrow. Also a bit more reliable as any gaming group is all but guaranteed to have a guy with way too many bolters laying around.

a quick and easy way to model shotguns is to cut away the sight, most of the barrel and bayonet lug and model a thin sliver of green stuff onto the end of the barrel, making tiny slits into it to give the impression of a grip..

swat i did and it looks almost right.. i'll get pics up as soon as my damn camera turns up :freaked-out: lol

You can make something like an automatic shotgun from a lasgun and a bolter:

1) cut the large end off the lasgun muzzle, leaving as much of the connecting barrel as you can.
2) Remove the power clip and the power clip dock from the botton of the lasgun.
3) take the clip from the bolter (cut it right at the base to get as much of the mag as possible) and green stuff it to the side of the lasgun, just behind the eagle.

It's not ideal but it's cheap and quick to make and looks reasonable.

Here's one i made earlier:
