i really dont think so. you use assault squads for assault right. so with taking a bolter you cant take a chain sword and bolt pistol. chain sword and bolt pistol would give +1 to their A. you can also shoot then assault with a bolt pistol but you cant with a bolter. best bet is to take a pistol of some type. if its plasma pistol or bolt thats up to you. i know that they can take a flamer too. so i would have one of them.

Considering that Assault Marines are more or less the dead average of close combat units, there are several enemies against which charging straight in isn't necessarily a good idea. I'm thinking specifically of Eldar, but any CC enemy with a higher initiative than MEQ can really work them over even if the Marines get the charge. You could use a bolter-equipped assault squad to soften up an enemy in preparation for a charge from another squad (In BA, probably a TAS with no equipment save a powerfist), or give them a couple plasma guns and have them go for the side/rear armor of vehicles--that lets them be effective even on the turn they deepstrike. Against lighter enemies such as IG, Tau and Tyranid Genestealers, bolters can actually be more effective than the extra close combat attacks thanks to the bolt's AP. The mobility of jump packs also helps you minimize the number of situations in which your targets get cover saves, and you can always bolt pistol and charge with almost the same effectiveness. It is a specialist role, granted, but not a useless one.
