Not only do I love the Fluff surrounding the Looted Wagon but also I don't think that it's half bad.The Boomgun Seems like my kind of gun with Strength 8, A.P. 3, Range 36", Ordnance and Large Blast. And after you get the boomgun the transport capacity is gone so then we can get the 'Ard Case upgrade. The "Don't Press Dat" is a setback for it but oh well. Something that I do not understand about the Don't press dat rule is how far does it move? Till It hits something or till it reaches its maximum movement for that turn? What do think about the looted wagon?

okay then, with don't press dat you MUST move as far as you can so you must move at cruising speed (12-13 inches) but you will stop if you tank shock.

I quite like looted wagons namely because of the boomgun as it is the most consistant and powerful ordance weapon in the ork's army (excluding PKs and apoca weapons).

cheers

I too employ a looted wagon in my boyz ventures! It's an easy model to make (rhino chassis+bitz+dwarf cannon= looted wagon!!!) For the pts (100-150) it really is a great steal, and helps any army in long range support! I've wiped out khorne beserkers, Vanguard, and hormuguants using a shell from this mighty tank!! I give it two thumbs up!! :thumbs up:

There are a few other discussions about the looted wagon on the forum. I hate to sound like a curmudgeon, but personally think the looted wagon w/ boomgun is quite useless.
It's pretty expensive, deadly, and has a very low armor. That combo means that it will get blown up very quickly, yet its fragility means that little firepower will be expended in destroying it. For a similar cost, I'd rather have more lootas...
my faithful looted leman russ (AV 14 front in the old codex) was great, but has only seen the light of day twice, in the early days of the new codex, getting blown up every time by turn 2.

yes they are weak and with a boomgun they are good at killing stuff... but unlike your looters they dont need line of sight on the target.. so they can be hidden up somewhere and rain death down apon your foe.. dont get me wrong looters are great too..

as for upgreads.. apart from a boom gun and or a big shooter... nothing much is worth taking IMO

Unnnfortunately the Boomgun is just Ordnance, not Ordnance Barrage, so you still need line of sight. If the range of the weapon were increased by 12 or more inches I would consider using it more often but as it stands it has to get into the thick of things (ie, within range of most every heavy weapon in the enemy's army).

So as not to be some downer, for people who have had success with it, how? Was it just not targeted? Do you take several other vehicles? Are you screened by a forcefield? Etc.

i plan to make a looted wagon with skorcha for my burna boyz to ride in when i finally get to painting them

i find the looted wagon is often overlooked as a transport for elite squads, small units of tankbusta's, or loota's/burna's can get a cheap ride in these

then the "dont press that" wont matter as much as you will be moving it with the rest of your trukks and battlewagons

shouldn't be overlooked by speed freaks

key thing with Orks is to always take things in pairs, never 1 looted wagon w/ boomgun always 2 or none,

however you can substitute maybe loota's as they fill the same role (if you want some diversity)

this goes for each and every ork unit, BW, trukks, buggies,Kans, kommando, etc.

they all need mutual support from at least 1 other unit, and you will find yourself winning more when your whole army works in unison

i have to hold my hands up on this one... you are of course correct... you do need line of sight..

the key to doing well with a boomgun is'nt always to kill lots of the enemy with it, sometimes the guy you'll face will know what it can do and shoot at it till its dead, and seeing as how thats shots taken away from the boyz it helps more of your army stay alive for longer.. yes i know the points are hight just for a distraction.. but it works.. and if they dont kill the boomgun it'll soon kill them!

I use a boomwagon all the time and Its done pretty well so far killing more than its points at least then getting booming up itself. But i enjoy having a weapon that everyone fears and I have that many targets in my army it useally last longer than it should at least.

I have just made another one the past few days from a rhino body and My first from a leman russ. I miss the days as well when i could loot any tank of the imperium i dont get why they took this away from us i could be looting a nice punisher or excutationer right now :(.

Lolwut?! Where does it say that you can only loot Rhinos and Leman Russes? I've just started designing a looted Carnifex with Boomgun or Skorcha for a friend of mine. That's what I love about the Looted Wagon is that you can steal anything and turn it against the enemy. The next project after the 'fex will be a nice little Looted Land Raider :D.

Also, Boomgun is worth it providing you make the enemy choose where to put their firepower i.e. make sure it's not the only target on the field for Heavy Weapons.

Ard Case, Grot Riggers and Armor plates? Or should I just keep the wagon out of sight?
That would help a bit, but it's still AV 11 and that mane upgrades make it expensive. The only way I find it useful is by hiding and moving out of cover 6 in, then shoot at a squad, preferably out of LOS from any heavy wepon in range of your wagon. It's a sniper, really.

I have been experimenting with decent success by using a looted wagon as a transport. Slower than trukks, but a bit tougher. The big issue is that it takes a slot, so it's valid only in army lists where you wouldn't fill your heavy support choices.

like most ork stuff its the upgrades that catch people out. most you dont need and others arnt worth the points you spend on them.. keep stuff cheap and killy.

yes a hard case will stop it from being open topped... but as its only AV 11 most heavy weapons can beat that easyly anyway... so save the points and buy another looter or a handful of boyz because they are much more likly to help you win the battle than the hard case is.
