Hi there

I'm actually converting a couple of warrior with Bone Sword, but I'm not sure what should be the best combination with the second set of weapons.

I really like the deathspitter because it hit hard on Thoughness 4 models, but it cost more compare to the devourer. Or should a take a pair of scything talons, they will be better in CC, but from my point of view not enough too eliminated their shoothing capability.

So , what you opinion ?

Many thanks !

I figure that Warriors shouldn't really go above 40 points each model (excluding the heavy weapon carrier). So when using boneswords taking the two cheaper options are something to definitely look into.

What should really be considered is how you are going to field the warriors? Deploying with a pod will make shooting a useful option, however running at the time to get to a safer position may be your better bet.

Walking Warriors should be taking ranged weaponry, so they have something to do once they are within combat range, but running isn't going to help them get to their prey. The extra hits on the charge from shooting is also a plus.

Personally I'm a fan of the deathspitter, because of it's way better model, and the fact that it hits decidedly harder, especially against light infantry that it ignores the saves on.

A single pair of scything talons really always strikes me as a somewhat iffy purchase. Shooting will grant far more hits, and thus the chance for more wounds caused. With the WS boost, you are re-rolling around half of your misses on average with close combat, but comparing those extra hits to an extra three attacks each? Hard to justify in my eyes.

I run mine with Boneswords and Deathspitters, but treat the Deathspitters as Devourers when I haven't got enough points, your opponent won't care so long as you're consistent (shooting them as devourers one turn and then shooting them as Deathspitters the next). In a tournament it may get a bit iffy though. The devourer is still a very effective weapon, at strength 4 assault 3, the only thing you're really getting with the Deathspitter is better armour penetration.

I always run my warriors by specialised squads.
for example: one squad with rending claws and scything talons and one with deathspitters (one barbed strangler or venom canon) and scything talons.
it works fine with me because you can leave the "shooty" warriors with my termies and the "melee" warriors with my close combat units.
I'd never tried it with more than two squads before so I don't know what will happen if I do so.

Like Alzer said, depends on the role you want your Warriors to fulfill. I like the rending claws option myself and think any Warrior brood would benefit. It gives them assault potential against vehicles -- particularly dreadnoughts -- that they otherwise lack. Rending claws makes any enemy unit not a land raider fear assaulting or being assaulted by your Warriors.

Whether you take another assault biomorph or a gun is totally up to you and how you intend to deploy and utilize them.

IMO, Warriors do not have enough attacks to warrant a single pair of scything talons or even a set. Rending Claws are superior for a CC brood in every case that I can think of.

I'm assuming you are going to be trying to hurt something that has a save better than a 5 or 6 if you're taking the Bone Swords and that generally means the extra strength from the Deathspitter will help with kills even if the AP allows for armor saves.

So far, in my experience, my warrior broods with devourers have earned less of their points back than those fitted with deathspitters. In all occasions they have been sent in with a spore, shoot, and kill the next turn. The only reason I can see myself ever going back to Devourers is if I need the extra points for something really important elsewhere. That is just me, though.

It all depends on what you had in mind for your brood, though.

I've recently played a game with a unit of 3 Warriors with 2 sets of scything talons each. They remain at the same price (since replacing the devourer is free) and are surprisingly good in CC, wiping out two full veteran squads (one with a Primaris Psyker!) and making their points back twice over.

To be honest, saying that you slaughtered guard veterens is not really that impressive if you ask me. Guardsmen are hardly any tougher than gaunts in close combat, heavy infantry such as warriors should always butcher them. Not to take away from your victory chatawax, just..that seems like something to expect. This isn't to say that dual-talons aren't a reliable, and cheap way to field warriors however. They do produce more hits so excel against lighter infantry, but may struggle against heavier units like marines. I still prefer having my primary combatants being able to shoot decently and being able to assault well. Really scything talons seem unnecessary on a unit with WS5, they get plenty of hits against all but the most specialized combat units

I like to run my warriors with deathspitters and a tyranid prime. This way they hit with a good amount of strength 5 attacks and when they get into CC the tyranid prime gives them a high weapon skill so only one pair of scything talons is fine cause they land most of their attacks.

I've got quite a few warriors with 1 pair of scything talons, mainly because the kit doesn't come with enough Rending claws. I've previously dipped these models and I'm planning on scrapping the dip off the talons so that I can add a few more lengths of extra talon blades to them to create converted Rending Claws as they are the way to go paired with the Deathspitter. Haven't played the new dex just yet so can't vouch for Boneswords.

My vote for the Brood if your going to give them Bone swords is to give the other weapons Scything Talons so that they are even more effective in Close combat. I've had some good success with a brood equipped like this. Just watch out for things that Instant kill them.
