So, it's a Night Spinner then..

Not hugely excited at the prospect, got to say. But the suggestion is that it will have the plastic fire prism turret in there with it on 'one sprue'. So that means I'll probably buy 3 at least heh.

I know it's getting new rules, so maybe that'll help it out, but barring a solid shot option like the Warp Spider Exarch, I cant see me every playing what is essentially a poor mans fire prism with less utility, but indirect fire.

Hope for the best, I guess.

The rules for numerous models have been changed and beefed up in 5th edition; prior incarnations of the Nightspinner aren't a basis to know how powerful it's going to be this time around. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it were like a Manticore, d3 large blast barrage, though I'd appreciate something to make it more distinct and flavorful.

Not particularly excited myself but that's only because I hate how poorly represented both are on the tabletop (the spinner and the spiders) but the most I see me getting out of this other than plastic turrets is a taster of what's in store for eldar with their eventual codex release.

I'd imagine it would have two firing modes, just like the Fire Prism, perhaps (and hopefully) a direct fire, high strength/low AP, long range shot (not railgun power, but railgun range, and maybe S10 to boot), and a barrage mode like the maticore, but low strength, low AP. Fire Prisms being better for straight AoE damage, Night Spinners better for Anti-Tank.

fire prisms ARE long range infantry killers. :D and better than the night spinner (with apoc rules) as they can link to twin link (more accurate) or to reduce AP on a large blast (no saves for MEQs) and even on their own can take a high stregth instant death blast or the anti-horde 5" plate. For killing tanks, prism can do it if they get lucky, but they're hardly built for it.

I was hoping for an eldar anti-tank tank, especially with spearhead coming out as that's a mech environment and we don't have much in the way of good long range anti-mech weaponry. Giving us a purely anti-infantry tank (which the nightspinner is, with it's current rules) would be a bit of a slap imo. But i'll probably still buy it for the prism turret. I'm such a mug. :D

Just as as pipe dream kind of thing, next codex I wouldn't mind seeing the Fire Prism go to more of a strictly anti-armor or anti-MEQ/TEQ role, and the Nightspinner handling the anti-horde side of things. I've always wondered why firing a laser out of a giant focusing crystal was always so unfocused anyway. But I could imagine the Focused shot becoming S9 AP2 Heavy 1 Lance, the Disperesed being mid-strength AP3 small blast, and the linking follows the same rules it currently does. If the Nightspinner does end up being a Manticore like anti-infantry platform, that would give Fire Prisms a distinct and useful niche in the army.
