Terminator spam vs tyrannids

Hail Brother Captains,

Long range scanners discovered a new threat entering our system: Hive Fleet "Borremoth"

Ha, ok, me and friends will play self invented campaign. Armies include SM (me), IG, Orks, Tyr. The Tyrannid player just bought his army from ebay and is new to the game.

It has been a long time since i played Tyrannids (2nd ed, i think) and i haven't read their new codex. But i assume he'll bring the usual army: Hive Tyrant, Carnifexes, Genestealers, Tyr Warriors, hordes and the unavoidable Lictors.

I normally play tank/dread heavy army but i want to try something completely new:

1500pts Army:

Terminator Librarian (Gate of Infinity / The Avenger)
10 Terminators 2x Heavy Flamer

10 Tactical Squad MM / Plasma Gun / Rhino

Tactics:

I will field everything from the start. Tacs go in Rhinos. Not sure if i will combat squad. Idea is to "jump" with termies, once my backline is secured (lictors), to hivemind/synaps creatures and eliminate them. Tacs will advance cautiously and mob up. Most horde can be killed by shooting, the real big ones have to be cc'd with power fists.

Questions:

Am i daydreaming with this list?
Are there new things in tyrannid list i need to know?
Any advice?

I really can't give any advice unless you include your opponents list. There are many different kinds of 'Nid lists and your Marines will preform well against some, but horribly against other.

As for the list I'd recommend swaping the MM for a ML on the tacitcals.

Most Tyranid lists these days don't usually include Carnifexes, Lictors, and Hive Tyrants. I see a lot more Genestealers, Gaunts, Warriors, Warrior Primes, Zoanthropes and even a few Venomthropes.

Might be worth trying just for fun tho.

TERVIGONS! You will face lots of those things and you will hate them. Quick overview, they're a (scoring) Troops-choice Monstrous Creature that produces additional (scoring) termagant squads in addition to being synapse, having lots of wounds and bestowing Feel No Pain on anything it likes. Make sure you have a good way to kill MCs. (Those Librarians won't be enough. Tyranids still have the "Shadow in the Warp", making psychic powers unreliable.) If nothing else, trade those flamers for cyclone launchers; they're good against the big bugs...medium bugs like Warriors, too. And IG.

If you're going Terminator-heavy then you may as well switch to a Codex that allows for scoring Termies. The Dark Angels have received a much-needed update and the Grey Knights would work, too.

Also don't forget about the Logan Wing with Space Puppies or if you can use Imperial Armor you might look at Modaci Blaylock (Imperial Armor 9) to makes Terminators scoring and if he joins a unit of them they can choose to pass or fail moral tests they are forced to make and can not be pinned. But you do have an interesting list that will be hit or miss vs the bugs. Look out for MCs, Genestealers, and anything with Bone Swords. 20 Dev gaunts in a spore can ruin your day also.

ok thx all for the info,
I got the codex of tyranids, read it twice, made up an army with a hive tyrant and used some chesspieces to try my army out. First round i jumped with the termies close to the queen (the HT) and realized i hadn't really the firepower to tackle toughness 6. It survived and next round it charged, ate 5 termies for breakfast and put a spell on the other unit so that it's WS and BS were reduced to 1!!

I will try to find out what stuff he bought from ebay and if that included that Tervigon. In the meantime i revised my armylist to include Cyclone ML, Toughness 6 is best tackled with S8 ML's

So 1500pts:

Tactical Termie Squad 10 man / 2CML: 460
Tactical Termie Squad 10 man / 2CML: 460

Scout Squad 5 / 1ML / Land Speeder Storm: 125
Scout Squad 5 / 1ML / Land Speeder Storm: 125

Close combat termie squad 5 man / lightn claws: 200

Leaves 130pts for OR librarian in termie armour OR chaplain

I know, i'm very low on scoring units and idea is to keep scouts back untill the most is dead. Idea is to hold backline and shoot synaps critters away with Cyclone ML, what comes through kill with cc termies. In the end ride out with Land Speeders to take scoring points.
Gonna be very risky, but i know that hyve tyrants cannot be taken out with cc with vanilla SM...
Also, eager to buy myslef into Grey Knights if this works out :)

Your scout squads are each 10 points too cheap. And if you are worried about his MCs in close combat you might consider changing your Lightning Claw Terminators to Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield ones. Str 8 with a 3++ is awesome, and if the MC doesn't die in 1 turn they will hit you back next round at init 1. Wounding on 2+ with a 3++ save is much better then wounding on 6+ with a re-roll and only a 5++ save. Also are you planning on combat squading the Tactical Terminators? 2 CMLs in a 5 man unit can do wonders on MCs while your all Storm Bolter units can focus on the smaller critters.

Librarian: 100
Termie Tactical 2 Cyclone ML: 460
Termie Tactical 2 Cyclone ML: 460
Termie CC 5man TH SS: 200
Scout ML / Land Speeder Storm: 135
Scout ML / Land Speeder Storm: 135

1490 maybe some upgrade on something...

Tactics: Field everything / combat squad the termies. Shoot Biggies with ML's, shoot small stuff with bolters and heavy bolters. When tyranid still manage to get through, counter with termie CC squad. In the end ride out with scouts and/or librarian with termie squad to score objectives.....
All in all very risky, there are much better armylists to counter tyranids, but i never played with so many termies so might be fun....
