Hey guys,

This may sound like a really stupid question, but can i use the other leman russ variants in normal games as if they were a codex entry? I have the stats in the armoured company list in WD, so at least i don't need imperial armour books. I'm thinking of adding a vanquisher to my army.....

If your opponant agrees to you using them, then yes you can.

for rulez on using them in normal guard armies you will need IAvol1. ;)

well not if i was to tell you but... nah!! that would be a breach of copyright...

but if you think about it in a friendly game everything is opponents permission. i mean your opponent could say: "I won't play you unless you take out your second HQ" even though it is perfectly legal. but the Tank in IA (and the flyers) are all legal unless the tourney organizers tell you they arent.

also the super-heavys are all legal because they have their own restrictions.

The general rule of thumb here, as I have gleaned from message boards and contact with Forgeworld direct is as follows:

For normal vehicle variants (such as Land Speeder Tempest, Leman Russ Executioner and Tau Turret Upgrades) just use them.

For Super Heavy Tanks (i.e. Baneblade) and Titans ask your opponent. Everyone I know accepts that you don't actually need to ask permission so long as you warn your opponent of your intention to use such an item.

I still hear people say "You can only use Forgeworld with your opponents permission" and I completely disagree. Let's see how the owners of Elysian Drop Troop armies feel about this theory shall we?

Elysians would use the normal IG troop rules in the Codex, the Baneblade however isn't covered by the Codex because it has special rules. Elysians would be no trouble using, but the Baneblade would.

That is a shame, because if you can't use the Chapter Approved 2003 Elysians, then you are missing some very important special rules that make them WAY more effective.

Hmm... make that COULD use the regular troop rules. But no matter how you look at it, you can't use a Baneblade as a russ. :)

Your point is taken, but the only reason a Baneblade or any other larger vehicle would be a problem to anyone would come down to just one thing...

The Forgeworld Opponents Song
"Hey friend bring your army, let's have us some fun
Hold on, you ain't use that coz I don't have one
So you saved your cash so you could buy that thing
but I don't wanna play now, I might not win".

Well, i decided to play it safe and added a demolisher. This is ok for my purposes as i'm trying to work on combined arms tactics. I notice that alot of guard players parcel thier armour out amongst their infantry, i'm looking to use armoured formations to smash at tough enemies whilst sentinels support my infantry. I can't find my codex, but my army must now be well over 2k (i REALLY went to town over the last few weeks....my wallet hates me now...) Excuding all my infantry i now have a full squad of sentinels, hellhound, chimera (intented for stormtroopers), a russ and a demolisher, Can't wait to play 'em!!
