The banner has helped a couple of times because there are a couple of units that can take on a chosen unit. it seems like a chosen khorne unit should win against anything but I have lost combat a couple of times and even ran once or twice.
I don't really have any problems with the basic strength of heroes and its nice always going first with the high initiative. I know your going to say that I shouldn't be in two rounds but like I said before there are a couple of units that can keep up with chosen warriors. There is also the chance that I roll bad and my opponent rolls good.
I have seen the Archaon's Hordes list and the only thing I don't like about it is that I can't take chosen units. I have to have another core unit if I upgrade one to chosen. I have even tried it once and it did worse than this one by a lot. The extra guys and the free command is nice but that stuff isn't as good as a chosen unit.
I don't mind getting flanked because I always play with terrain so it is harder to get the flank, and I can usually take charges on the flank with the warriors.
The army is too small, I know chaos models are expensive but I have a 1000pt Tzeentch army with two aspiring champions (bear in mind Tzeentch champions are much more expensive than knorne ones!) and four units.
Try using a combination of warriors, marauders and beastmen instead.
If you're interested in starting a Warhammer Fantasy army, there's a few things you can do to get started.
Like Archaon said, you can go into a Games Workshop store, tell a staff member that you're interested in Warhammer Fantasy Battle and ask if they can give you a demo game. This means you can see if you like the rules system without having to buy the rulebook first.
Then, once you've tried the rules out and if you like them, you can buy the rulebook and possibly also get the Army book of the race you want (like Hordes of Chaos for instance). Have a flick though the rulebook, read your army book and check these forums for army ideas.
It's often a good idea to start small when building a new army. Put together a small list of 500 points or so and just buy the models for that. Play some games with this small force, get a feel for the units in it and then you can begin to expand your army by adding another 500 points.
