i'm not sure whether to play ultramarines or steel wings to ally with my daemonhunters. i've got a spacey marine event on april 9th so any help is great.
steel wing traits are:
advantage:trust your battle brothers.
disadvantage:eye to eye.
i'm probably going to make them ultramarines but i'm not sure, please help!

Cough* Ultramarines *Cough. Totally up to you. You want a very balanced army, go the Ultra's. You want to orientate your own army go your traited chapter.

I love the boys in blue, they can fulfil every role and do it well. As for a tournament you might want there flexibility so you can cater for other races strengths.

Anyway those are my thoughts.

I personally like ultramarines, so codex, yet still characterful. Plus they can get the honour guard and tyrannic war veterans! Did I mention the cool special characters!

Blood Angels with plenty of armour and the good old fashioned Tactical Squads, i don't think they to be so CC orientated Blood Angels have far more ornate and complex heraldry than ultras can feild rock hard tactical squads and always have the option for hardcore close combat

are you having the daemonhunters ally with you? or are you having your space marine ally incorporated with daemonhunters? if it's the former, it doesn't matter, since char traits do NOT apply. if you're space marine with DH allies, than you maintain traits. i'm not gonna tell u what to take, since i am rather... bias (burn in hell, ultramarines..), but i will say two things. ultramarines are very vanilla and basic and allow more unit choices, while custom armies are much more unique in the battlefield.

ive always hated SMs except for Dark Angels...i like their fluff, i like their colour scheme and i love the Deathwing (is that what they r called? the terminators? im a fantasy player normally lol)and RAvenwing sections :p

Ultramarines are dull, but then so were BAs back in the day before they got all that CC stuff

i made my own chapter and they are fine, ive given them the trait wich lets tactical squads infiltrate at the start and i have made a super great fluff story which is extreamely cool

pm me if you can be bothered to hear it

I say be unique and go uber unorthodox. Slap together some traits that will give you an interesting, fun-to-play army. I'd love to see a battle report involving Marines with "Take the fight to them" and "See, but don't be seen" advantages paired up with "Aspire to glory" and "Faithful unto death." It would be messy, but fun to watch.
