Ork Demolisher

I wanted to try and be more original than a normal SF ork army regarding the loote vehicle I use. Instead of the basic ID bassie, I was thinking about using a Leman Russ 'Combat' Demolisher.

Model: The Model would look almost exactly like the Looted Tank the orks use in dawn of war, but with a demolisher cannon instead of a normal cannon and more primarily red. I will convert the rear end of the tank to look like an orky 'jet engine' to represent the turbo-booster.

It's style will change depending on the enemy. On a dangerously shooty like tau, I will zip up the sides hugging cover, and when I have to expose something i'll expose the av 14 or 13 side. Then , on turn 2 or three, before the rest of my army clashes into the troops, unleash and murder them. Against a non shooty army, ill just move it up the front and let the enemy chunk shot after wasted shot into its ass.

Leman Russ Demolisher
Weapon Upgrades: Heavy Bolter (Mandatory), Two-Heavy Flamer Side Sponsons.
Ork Upgrades: Armour Plates, Grot Riggers, Red Paint Job, Turbo Booster, Stikkbomb launcher.

Imagine a hulking behemoth of metal belching out clouds of flame as it smashes into the front of your army. This would cost in the region of 190 points or so (not giving away any specific point costs). I believe it makes for a cool model and it would be more orky than a basilisk. An ork would want the biggest, tuffest, louded and bangiest tank possible and the demolisher fits that profile.

It is equally good against horde like armies as it is agaisnt vehicles. The only armies it might have trouble with is sit back and shoot armies, but it is very durable (essentially as durable as a land raider if its getting hit in the front / side every turn, plus a 6+ invuln and grot riggers.)

personally the demolisher sounds more orky than a bassie, and hell I actually like the tank better. the only problem I see with what you have is the heavy flamers, although effective it basically makes your tank purely close oriented instead of meidum to close, trying three total heavy bolters could give even BS2 an awsome amount of hits, and they are defensive weapons so hey lots of shots. go for it!

First, a couple of random bits. First, you can't fire the Demolisher along with defensive weapons because it's ordinance. Second, Heavy Flamers are below Str 7, so they're also defensive weapons. Third, a volley of three HBs will net an average of 3 hits per turn.

I see two problems with bolters over flamers.

1) You can only move 7 + d6" while firing them. I'd rather charge the full 13 + d6" and get the Demolisher into range a turn sooner.
2) If they get lucky and blow off your Demolisher, I think you'd do more damage charging in with flamers than holding back with the HBs, particularly since you can tank shock them into conveniently tight packed clumps in range of each sponson.

It is EXTREMELY cheap (can't give exact costs, but lets just say about the same cost as a slugga boy) to give the demolisher two side sponsons of heavy flamers. Basically I can demolisher the hell out of everything until it gets swarmed by little buggers, then the heavy flamers can churn up some fiery death and melt the bastards clutching on to the sides. Plus it would be seen as such a threat by most players, they will probably be shooting at that instead of your extremelly vulnerable trukks and buggies.

Well that close I don't want to risk the tank scattering on to itself or to friendly troops, plus against troops like guard, orks and gaunts, the two heavy flamers will actually kill more than the demolisher. Plus when the tank causes tank shocks, the enemy will line up right in front of the flamers like lambs to the slaughter. Also, like other have said, the demolisher is gonna be the first thing blown off if it gets a weapon destroyed, and when that happens, it still has a lot of close up damage.

And even if you don't think it will do that much, it will at least earn its point back (its basically the same cost as a slugga boy), and its a better choice than two more heavy bolters or mult meltas.

If you REALLY want something Orky that can dish out LOTS of Dakka and pain...

Looted Land Raider Crusader =O

Expensive.... but almost all the weaponry is TL'd so you have a better chance to hit.

And honestly, can you imagine the look on your opponents face when he sees 15 Skarboyz jump howling out of the tank while the Hurricane Boltaz and the Assault Cannon shred him to pieces?

Expensive, but.... ohgodsoworthit.

No its still not worth it IMO, even though its twin linked, its normal cost is based on BS of 4 AND being twin linked. The demolisher can deal out a lot more damage than a landraider.
