Parts for a military-style helicopter?

Trying to think of ideas for bitz to use for a military-style helicopter, and running up very dry. I am gonna use it as a transport, but not concerned about fitting everything inside, just making it look helicoptery.

The hardest thing to build when making a helicopter is the fuselage (sp?) main portion, as that's what makes it look like it does. I looked at the apache (although not a transport) and it is basically just a fuselage with wings. Also looked at the huey, as well as other actual transport helicopters.

I need to at least be over 50% GW parts, so would appreciate some suggestions from anyone who knows of some suitable parts, as my experience with 40k is very limited, I am not that familiar with the parts lines.

Thanks, guys.

thats hard to say. maybe some of the forgeworld things might be more applicable to helicopter or copterish parts? GW (to my knowledge) havent really got any kind of transports that range from looking beyond tanks. the blades would be simpler to make yourself i think. is it ok by you if i give it a try?

if you are going to base it on what the forgeworld aircraft looklike you could use the rhino as your base model. cover the tracks(or even cut/shave them away(you could even leave them there and say it's for when the chopper taxis) but if you do remove them replace them with skids which you can make from tubing from a hardware store (make a relatively soft metal) then convert the front to look like one of the forge world aircraft using green stuff. then you can build up a bas for your engine and put the blades on that. do you follow? i'm not sure it would work but it could work... but then i'm a nid player so transports arent all that applicable.

oh and i'd hate to make your decisions on what to do harder but have you seen the v-22 osprey. it is an aeroplane/helicopter do you know what i'm talking about. go to google and under images type v-22. i think it would make a cool transport helicopter thing or if you base yours on it like using you could use the valkrie and convert the wings so it operates in much the same way as the v-22

you'll need to use a standard rhino and a land speeder, 2 pairs of the newwhirlwind missile pods, some plasticard, for this one

1

build the rhino as normal, but dont gule on the external side doors, or the rear door.

2
remove the tracks and the exhaust ports.

3
take a square of plasticard ensuring that it fits between the two side columns and fits flushly now glue the plasticard in place cut some strips to fill the gaps in the top and bottom of the gaps.

4
build the missile pods and fit 2 to the side of the rhino.

5
build 2 pair of wings about 5mm short of the length of the missile pods at the widest part
tapering to about 20mm at the ends.

6 extend the rear of the rhino by the same length as the front of the landspeeder
glue on the rhino rear door to this.

7 add the remaining 2 missile pods to the top of the model, flush with the rear.

8 take the front section of the land speeder and remove it completely keeping the roll cage look in tact then attach this to the front of the rhino (you may have to add a small box to the front of the rhino first.

9 using the plasticard cut out sections for the windscreen and side pannels and create a box for the front of the speeder.

10 add some imperial details from the tank sprue and the land speeder, specifically the rear spoiler add this to the rear missile pods. also add the land speeders stubb wings, to the rear pods as well, (just make them come straight out from the sides not at an angle)

this keeps the whole model GW legal as all the parts except from the plastcard are from gw models.
