Primarch's

Hey first post here. I'm not very "into" the whole 40k thing as a "hobby", but i think the mini's and stories r fairly cool (I have painted my own 1500odd pt. SM army but have never played a game).

ANYWAY, back to my point. I was talking to my friend who kind of used to play 40k and be into the books and he said most of the Primarch's didnt actually die per se, infact he said only Sanguinius did.

SO, does any1 know of a summary of what happened to all of them, post-heresy and stuff, or could some genius write a quick 1 out if they know (even if its like 1-2 sentences per primarch)????

PS. What about the "missing" legions "expunged" from the records.

PPS. Sorry if these are ridiculously stupid or obvious questions.

All hail Wikipedia, for it brings us the answers we search, right here.

To summarise quickly, the following Primarchs are thought to be dead: Sanguinius, Horus, Ferrus Manus, and Alpharius. Roboute Guilliman is also sort of dead, seeing as he was locked inside a stasis field at the moment of his demise.

As for the missing Legions, no one knows, but everyone’s got their own conspiracy theory. ;)

Actually, we don’t know that for sure, since no one saw him die and his body was never recovered. :hmm:.
Except his hand.. Which is what leads people to believe he is dead. Leaving bodyparts lying around is not normal behaviour. ;)

Fulgrim is possibly dead as well, although many sources seem to disagree. The official stuff in the EC chapter approved is that he disappeared during a space battle with the world eaters, and his body was never recovered. Since then, many EC have gone off in search of a daemon world where he is rumoured to be alive..

I think the black library and a bunch of other stuff read too much into that and basically changed 'rumoured to' to 'definately is.'

Alpharius is also thought to be dead.. Though there is the whole 'tricksy' thing going on there. Did the alpha legion set it up as a deception? Personally.. I'd say no.. If I remember straight, Alpharius was 'killed' by Gulliman.. I think a primach would be aware if he was fighting a normal human, simply from the sheer difference in power level. Then again, I'm not 100 percent familiar with the situation.

Finally, Konrad Kurtz (Night Haunter) is also known to be dead. A Callidus assassin apparently succeeded in killing him in single combat. Normally, this shouldn't be even remotely possible, but the theory is Night Haunter (like his Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now namesake) deliberately commited suicide by holding back. Why he might have done this is a mystery, but my guess is he'd just seen too much into the darkness of human nature (like many primachs he had prophetic powers, but it was only the worst things which came out.)

It's also worth noting that none of the chaos primachs have their original, mortal bodies.. So they're not really alive in the traditional sense anyway.

And of course Horus, who is dead as a dodo.. Even his warp presence was annihilated.

As for the missing legions.. you don't get expunged for no reason. It genereally means you've done something horrible then been thoroughly annihilated, with every corpse tagged.

No, he was killed by a Calidus as staed in Lord of the Night. I have an eyewitness acount. He welcomed death, and he didn't fight. Konrad instead took death with grace.

What, so Horus's Lunar Wolves didn't quite meet the requirements?;)

Oh and what of the Emporer? I always thought he was kept alive by that Throne, but after reading a few thigns I'm getting the vibe he's dead....????

They're still alive.. They merely changed their name. They now call themselves the Black Legion, and are probably the most prominent and powerful of the chaos legions within the eye of terror. They are led by Horus' right hand man, Abaddon the Despoiler.

As for the Emperor, as I understand it, he's braindead, but his warp presence (soul in 40k terms) is still alive and well, and it powers and focuses the astronomicon (a big psychic beacon which allows ships to navigate.) There are varying accounts as to the state of his body, some of the more esoteric fluff from the Inquisitor game actually suggests that his body has healed, but noone wants to revive him for fear of what might happen. He could be completely insane after millenia of being used as a giant psychic torch, or his presence could split the Imperium apart in a massive civil war which it can't afford.. Thus, he's staying where he is for now.

As the outsider said, he requires a regular intake of psychic individuals, whose bodies and minds are slowly incorporated into the mechanism of the throne, and used to maintain the Emperor's power. This is described as one of the most agonising and horrific fates imaginable, and is occasionaly used as a punishment for particularly nasty heretics, as well as poor psykers who were too weak to be used in some other capacity like powering the astronomicon or becoming sanctioned psykers for the guard.

Night Haunter was killed by a Callidus, and it's quite a widely documented fluff moment. Strangely though, in the account I read, her bionic recording devices shut off as she charged him, so only she actually saw him die.. Spooky huh. ;)

Russ may well also be dead.. Before leaving the fang he did say.

'There is a time when our chapter will be dying, as I am now dying.'

However, the space wolves sometimes claim to get visions of him, and he promised to come back for the final big scrap with chaos.

Could we get a definitive list posted about the fate of the Primarchs? It would get things sorted once and for all.

And yes, Night Haunter was killed by a Callidus. By the name of M'Shen.

This is what I know so far. I may well be wrong on a few of them, my memory isn't perfect.

Guilman - mortally wounded by Fulgrim, currently in stasis on Macragge at the point of death
Sanguinius - killed very violently and on every level by Horus
Lion El'Johnson - disappeared at the destruction of Caliban
Leman Russ - disappeared, allegedly to the Eye of Terror
Rorgal Dorn - got sucked into a ship's engines
Jaghati Khan - disappeared into the Eye, chasing Dark Eldar
Ferrus Manus - ?
Corax - ?
Vulkan - ?
Horus - killed by the Emperor
Night Haunter (Conrad Kurze) - gladly killed by M'Shen, Callidus Temple
Lorgar - ?
Alpharius - Killed by Guillman in single combat (allegedly)
Fulgrim - missing in action in the EoT
Perturarbo - currently alive on a fortress-dæmon world in the EoT
Angron - alive, but banished back to the Warp for a long time after the First War for Armageddon
Mortarion - alive in the EoT, sulking in a dæmonworld he changed to look like his homeworld
Magnus the Red - alive, plotting and scheming on the Planet of Sorcerors

Fulgrim is listed as being alive and a Daemon Prince in the Rulebook.

Corax vanished after Istvan, something to do with his experiments to create new marines going wrong.

Vulkan and Ferrus Manus dropped on Istvan and disappeared.

Lorgar I thought was also a Daemon Prince, but I can't remember the fluff sources for that one.

Indeed Night Haunter did indeed allow M'shen to kill him however his reason was one of the best, By allowing M'Shen to kill him it proved him right, remember his last words are "Death is nothing when compared with Vindication."

As far as I'm aware, none of the Primachs who fell to chaos still have their original bodies (except of course those who died before ascending.) They're all daemon princes..

I did say it was possible newer fluff had confirmed fulgrim as alive, however, in the Index Astrates article, he was an unknown case.. The inquisition had a task force on hand searching for proof or otherwise of his continuing existance.

Leman Russ did not go to the Eye of terror that was Corax. Russ went missing durring a mission to find the Seed of Life to bring the Emperor back from the Golden throne it says that in the books about the SW.

Fulgrim managed to nearly kill Roboute(though Fulgrim was already a Daemon Prince at the time).

It is HIGHLY unlikely that Fulgrim could have killed Mannus. IA tells us that Mannus fought with the emperor for three days(or was it a week) and was never bested. No one has ever come close to that. Mannus was the pinnacle of primarch determination, its actually widely believed that had he accomplished his mission on Istavan(to meet horus in single combat) the heresy would have ended rather early,as Mannus almost surely would have killed horus, who was only beginning to become daemonically powerful at that point.

There's little doubt that mannus was killed on Istavan, but the chances that it was the work of a single other primarch are slim.

Vulkan disappeared on istavan as well.

Corax flew himself into teh EoT shortly after the heresy.

Lorgar is a Daemon Prince.

Fulgrim killed Ferrus Manus single-handedly during the Drop Site Massacre. It is stated in the new Sabertooth Horus Heresy books. How much faith you put in those books is of course your own choice, but they make little secret of the fact that it was Fulgrim (or more correctly, the daemon possessing Fulgrim) who decapitated Ferrus Manus and presented his head to Horus as a trophy.

In reply to Sabe by the time Mannus and Fulgrim fought Fulgrim had his powers enhanced by a deamon (or prehaps he had already become a deamon prince can't remember) so it is quite possible for mannus to have been killed, I do remember that the old rules in epic did allow fulgrim to take down a reaver Titan (as could the other primarchs in fairness).

As for the Solar Maccharius thing point taken games workshop produced rules for quite alot of characters who have died but it does detail where they died, where as the rules for fulgrim were for him after the horus herey when he had become a deamon prince. When did he die and CAN he die (Angron for example can only be banished). Also may not be a strong point but going to mention it anyway it seems a bit unfair/unlucky that of the four powers Slannesh is the only one to have lost their champion, Mortarion Magnus and Angron are definitly still alive.
