Deathspitter or Devourer? Thats the question

My Hive Tyrant currently has VC, TL Deathspitter and ES, TS, and Catalyst. I am thinking of trading the Deathspitters for Devourers. On the battle field which one ends up causing more wounds?

Devourers will generally do better on Tyrants simply due to the shear number of shots they'll have. A Deathspitter is decent, but only when your opponent has a habit of clumping models together or otherwise uses tight formations. The Deathspitter is obviously the better weapon against vehicles, but a Venom Cannon will do a much better job. In general, I'd go for Devourers over Deathspitters.

I'm in full agreement. I'll take devourers over deathspitters any day. With the Deathspitter, the small blast template doesn't justify (for me) the reduction in shots; wheras with the devourers the slight loss of power is more than acceptable for a weapon that fires six times as often as the Deathspitter (on a Hive Tyrant anyway).

A small blast template will hit one model and possible wound 1-3 others. The devourer fires six times for the tyrant with rerolls to hit and wound. I didn't do the math but it seems much more likely to cause more wounds with six shots instead of one.

A good idea is for you to actually test out the deathspitters and Devourers in mock dice rolls in playtesting to find out what is better.

But yes Devourers are better (though I believe a hive tyrant can be better armed).....deathspitters are only good on warriors in my opinion.

Sound advice. I prefer doing the math then rolling dice over and over to get the averages for weapons. Playtest (proxy) a few games and see what fits your playing style. Just because something is mathematically superior doesn't mean it will fit your style of play as there are too many variables to model mathematically (at least for me). Besides, with current GW prices how can you afford not to proxy new models?

"Dakka" is the sound effect for weapons fire, usually boltguns. "More dakka", in the context of Orks, means more firepower. A DakkaFex is a Carnifex that can shoot alot. Such a Carnifex is usually outfitted with sets of Twin-Linked Devourers and Enhanced Senses.

Ok, I see. Thanks for that; I have been quite confused on what that means.

again, thanks.

Plus with the devourers you can reroll to hit and to wound with could prove vital in making the enemy take as many saves as possible. Niether of the weapons has a low AP so the more shots the better!

It is also the web site that first mentioned the "Dakkafex" in the best Carnifex article I have found.
