I was thinking of Dutiful with both "Honour your Wargear" and "No mercy, no respite" and the Drawback "Eye to eye".

My thinking is to max out the power of the 8 man 4 Missile Launcher Devistator squad with Tank Hunters = 224pts and to take a Chaplain (BP+JP) led 10 man Assualt squad (2xPP, VS+PF) with Furious Assualt = 396pts.

I will be using a bike squad with the restrictions from "Eye to eye" as well as the Assualt squad as my fast attacks.

Any thoughts or challenges, do the pts seem TOO high to risk especially the Assualt squad.

Nope the points dont seem to high for what each unit is getting, though the points are high as far as fielding each unit. (Bearing in mind the assault squads only cost around 200pts.)

You might want to consider using aspire to glory as your disadvantage. Niether your assault or gun elements are at all effected by it and The loss of nthe relics/artifacts affects chaplains very little. That and only being allowed 1 dred, 1 vet squad, and one termie squad doesnt do much to you either...8)

That should work very well. Both the things you mentioned are very powerful. Just keep in mind you can take any 2 traights together. The little boxes and nice names they give the different catagories are merely there for asthetics.

Actually thats not quite true, you can take any two, however:

if you take two from the same box, you are a notable divergence, requiring one major drawback.

if you take two from different boxes, you are a significant divergance, requiring one major and one minor drawback.

True, but not even the rulezboyz at tournies would penalise you if you took two different traits and were only notable divergence...8)

Aspire to glory is too much of a pain.

Eye to eye is a no brainer, I can't believe it is supposed to be a MAJOR drawback. My only concern is GW may change it!!!!!!!

You say it like minor drawbakcs actually affect the game.

@ King Nerd

Eye to eye IS a major drawback. LST's are just that good.

You can still take one unit of LST, just leave your bikes at home and get some Assualt squads :w00t:

Yes, you can still take one unit.

But one of the tactics to defend your speeders is to split them into as many different squads as possible. Aside from that, LST's are REALLY REALLY good. Not being able to take a bunch really is a major drawback.

The thing about drawbacks is that they only affect you if they pertain to your list. The minor drawbacks are a perfect example of this as half of them really wont affect your list at all. The majors only affect your list if you plan on using those units. For your tastes, eye to eye doesnt seem like a drawback. To me however, as I love both speeders and bikes, it is a pretty big one. Id prefer to play without termies and dreads.

In the end, disadvantages come down to 2 things. Either you take the ones that dont effect you after you build your list. Or you choose come based on fluff and make a list according to them. Both are perfectly viable ways of doing it.

The latter of the two being so much more fun when you play by your story rather than build your story based on how you play. Makes adapting to new situations more important and all the more rewarding...8)

Really though brynn, its easy for you to say taking something like eye to eye is a very tough move. You are after all the preacher of cost effective squads the the chappie HQ. (Its a much greater challange when we can't play with those units we love and have to walk uncharted territory.)

That was my whole point. As a player who loves his fast attack, eye to eye is a harsh drawback for me. For someone else, like Kind Nerd, obviously the other drawbacks seem far more containing.

One point about taking disadvantages for list or for fluff. Either is perfectly viable and different people find different things fun. You prefer to choose disadvantages first. That is perfectly fine, but keep an open mind and be sure to relaise some peolefind it more fun to take disadvantages aftter making their list. If thats how they have more fun, there is nothing wrong about it.

Lastly, to be fair, I do suggest cost effectiveness, but we get a lot of new or unskilled players round these parts and they need to know about those. Personally, I dont play with a chappie HQ or an assualt squad or devastators.

Heh, but your still the preacher of them all...8)

Its fun to take those disadvantages last, but it always looked like more of a search for the ones that did the least. Heh, you and I take fast lists but we go about it with different core focus's.
