After attending Games Day LA and playing in the tourney I decided I wanted a change from my usual Ulthwe Strike Force. I got a 40 out of 60 but I felt I could have done better if I'd been slightly more prepared. This army was built to be a tourney army.

HQ: Slaaneshi Demon Prince w/ 2 Lightning Claws, Demonic Rune, Armor, Strength, Resilience, Combat Drugs, Infiltrate, Sorceror, 5 Minor Psychic Abilities, Warp Talisman, Personal Icon

Troops: 8 Demonettes, 4 squads of 12 Demonettes

Heavy Support: 2 Defilers w/ Indirect Fire

Ultra Marines

HQ: Master w/ Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon, Artificier Armor, Iron Halo

High level Librarian (can't remember the stupid names) w/ Termy Armor, Thunder Hammer, Power Weapon, Veil of Time

Elites: 7 Assault Termies w/ Lightning Claws and Furious Charge
Dreadnoughts w/ Assault Cannons, Extra Armor and CC Weapons

Troops: 2 10 man Squads w/ 2 Plasma Guns

Heavy Support: Land Raider Crusaider w/ Smoke Launchers

We played Take and Hold with Escalation etc. We played a 4x6 with 5 terrain pieces. One was in the center and the rest was in each corner. He started 1 Tac squad behind ruins by the Master and the other in a forest to his far right. My Lord was in front of the Tac squad with the Master. He got first turn.

Marines 1st: The Master moved in terrain and his squad which he jumped out of moved around. Plasma did wounds on my Lord and the Master and 1 Bolter didn't do anything. I'd reasons on odds the Lord wouldn't die and I was right.

Slaanesh 1st: My Lord moved up than charged the Tac squad. He killed 5 Marines and took no wounds but the held and piled in.

2nd: He got everything in as his already deployed forces held. The Dreadnoughts showed up on either side of the Lord, about 8" away. The Raider was about 14" on his right. In combat I killed 2 more Marines and they held again.

2nd: All my Demonettes came in as did a Defiler. The Defiler hid behind some woods and the Demonettes scattered. One went to the Raider, one to each Dreadnought, one to the Master and one to the beat up Tac squad. This was through a combo of scatter, moving and assaulting so it didn't matter how far they went really. The Defiler shot at the full Tac Squad and didn't do anything. In combat I killed his Master and lost 1 Demonette. I killed 1 Dread for no loss and blew off the others CC Weapons for no loss. I killed the small Tac Squad and the Raider, he lost 1 Termie to the Raider blowing up on a 6 and I lost 2 Demonettes. Everything that Masaacred went toward the Raider.

3rd: The Tac squad moved toward the Raider but had no shots in range. The Dread died and killed no one.

3rd: My other Defiler cae in and both shot at the Tac squad with no result. All squads went for the Termies and in combat they all died including the Librarian although the Librarian killed 2 Demonettes. I masacred toward the Tac squad.

4th: He shot 5 Demonettes dead.

4: I assaulted his Tac squad with 3 Demonette squads and destroyed it. We called it a Massacre baded on what I'd lost (basically nothing) and me holding the objective with some things.

My army is really broken so please don't comment it wasn't fair. I play to win, not to have cool models or anything because I'm a total tourney player.

Yah. . . Looks like he spent almost 200 points on wargear, including Gifts. . .

well i cant find the rule that says you can only use an icon for one suad a turn so im not sure about that, never heard it. as for the points, he's totally legal. i have exactly 100 pts of demonic and according to the errata not everything counts towards his wargear limit, according to my calculations he can have 34 pts left and army builder backs me up

Slaanesh lord is legal. Psychic and the such don't coun't so get your facts right.
Ah. . . just a small point of confusion. GW decided to give two different abilities the same name: the Minor Psychic Power in the "Psychic Abilities & Equipment" list, and the Minor Psychic Power in the "Gifts of Slanesh" list.

Just to end any confusion (and if anyone disagrees with me, I'd like to point out that I'm the guru of Chaos and rarely make mistakes about that army); these are the only things that count against his Daemonic Gifts limit. Those listed come out to exactly 100 points, so he's legal.

But neither count towards the Daemonic Gifts limit. While they're Gifts of the Gods, they're also Psychic powers and equipment so do not count against the cap.

I realize that. However, if it were the Slanesh variety of minor powers they'd count toward the overall wargear limit, which would put him at almost 50 over.

no they wouldn't only weapons and daemonic gifts count toward the limit not marks, abilities or psychic powers and equipment of which slaanesh minor powers fit firmly into,

also multiple squads can come out of the same icon but ur running a real risk cus if a single model hits an enemy or friendly the entire unit is destroyed

just as a side note ur army list is very nasty but doeshave one flaw and that is if the prince dies ur in it royally,as a side note i would scrap a unit od daemones for a havoc squad with heavy b's or the slaaneshi equivelant just to help with somesurpressing fire

I'm not a Chaos player, but it seems to me that "Psychic Abilities & Equipment" clearly refers to those items in the category of the same name in the armoury. The Slanesh Minor Psychic Powers are not in that category and therefore should count towards the wargear limit. I agree that I am incorrect about the weapons, though. Subtracting the cost of the Lightning Claws, he would still be over if those minor powers were of the Slanesh variety.

So, if I understand correctly, this army has only one place from which the Daemonettes can be summoned, the lord. If he dies earier than any of your summoning rolls, then those models count as dead for VPs.

I don't have the brass to take a list like that, but I applaud you wholeheartedly!

Once upon a time, one vortex grenade would have hosed you in Turn 1, is your single lord survivable enough in the current game? Str 10 weapon insta-death? I don't know all the qualities of the Demonic Gifts so that's why I'm asking.

he cant be insta killed he has Demonic Rune. if youve read the chaos codex youll know hes nigh unkillable actually. i roll 6 dice for minor psychic powers and if one is a 3 i got the Siren power. with a successful psychic test i cannot be shot at nor assaulted as long as im not in a squad or in an assault. with Ld 10 and the ability to re-roll a psychic test once per game, he really never dies. the only reason he took wounds in this game is because i infiltrated him in the open and reasoned mathematically the odds were in my favor he wouldnt die and if he didnt i would have the game, so i played the odds and they worked. i mean now he even has Bionics just because i had points open, he's a beast

i would have to be royally unlucky for him to die. id have to not get first turn and infiltrate him practically in the open to be shot at and id have to fail the psychci test with a re-roll because it happens in their turn. i dont really like the idea of havoc squads. for 155 pts i can get 5 marines with 4 HBs. 5 marines will never really live through a shooting phase, id rather just have the defilers. they can hide and shoot and at least have armor 12. ive also play tested the army alot and ive never lost more than 3 demonettes to summoning. if you know how to guess ranges and manuever, its pretty easy to avoid disasters.

just to note this is Black Guardian but this site screwed up my account very badly so i had to make a new one

you must have to pray for first turn or play some really comical list man!
i love the idea though. you must get some pretty generous terrain on the table for that infiltrating. how would you fair against a ravenwing list i wonder? of course youd get close then the speeders completely vacate the area and await demons then destroy demons then your lord guy and the speeders sort of play the dancing game until you fail a psychic test (wont freakin ever happen with him) but the vps for the ravenwing ought ta get them the game alone. very cool list! now thats a demon bomb!

okay, Ravenwing is easy to beat. lets say i get escalation. i win. thats a 50% chance right there. otherwise i can hope for a decent scatter in addition to my move and assault so thats a decent chnce as well. also, defilers can shoot at things. plus whoever plays a 9 land speeder ravenwing army is a cheesehead and not much of a player to have to play an army that one sided

thats what i was afraid of initially. since that report ive changed the list. ill post the new lsit since poeple seem interested.

Chaos Sorceror w/ Mark of Slaanesh, Infiltrate, Demonic Talons, Warp Talisman, 6 Slaanesh Minor Powers, Personal Icon, Frag Grenades

Chaos Lord w/ Mark of Slaanesh, Combat Drugs, Dark Blade, Bolt Pistol, Doom Siren, Demonic Strength and Resilience, Infiltrate, Personal Icon, Warp Talisman, ^ Slaanesh Minor Psychic Powers, Demonic Armor, Spiky Bits

4x 12 Demonettes

10 Slaanesh Havocs w/ 4 Blaster Masters, 6 Sonic Blasters and Infiltrate

Basically I can blow away one swarm squad a turn with those Havocs as swarm armies usually are light on shoot sans Guard. Guard is actually fairly easy, the Lord can tear up a squad a turn and the Demonettes do a pincer move and just Massacre into the next suad with the Havocs nabbing anything to far to jump into. With my whole army Infiltrating I get to see my opponents deployment and hide or play aggressive accordingly letting me dominate the opening turns. i can deal with basically any army. :)
