Ooo, not sure about the battleship dude. Most of the players here will agree with me when I reccomend that Battleships are best confined to 1500 pts + fleets.
Also, you are lacking in cruiser weapons batteries, its genarally a good tactic to waste an enemies shields with WBs and then let him have it with lances as they have a higher chance of hitting. So replace one gothic with a dominator or a lunar. You may even want to add a dictator for more ordnance presence.
Firestorms are a bit overpriced and are pretty inflecible. Have three swrods and three Firestorms.
By all means, play that fleet and have fun with it. But it needs some serious re-working to be a competitive list. Sorry to tear it apart, just trying to help .
An Overlord is a BattleCruiser, not a Battleship. I think you're mixing it with the Oberon, Will.
That IS a nice set of cruiser Weapon Batteries on her. I'll agree with Will when he says two Gothics may be a bit tricky on you, though. Statistically, you'll get two lances pointed at an enemy vessel, each of which hit 50% of the time. So one hit out of that ship per round. With two Gothics... That's two points per round if you roll average. Not stellar damage output. They may do ok, though with the Overlord's batteries to help them out, so don't count the idea out just remember , Batteries, then Lances, so fire the Oberon first. I'd replace one Gothic with a Lunar. Especially since those Firestorms are a boatload of lances already.
The Cobra's, I don't think a squadron of two is allowed, but check me. And two Cobra's operating alone... bleah. A strength 4 torp spread is kinda insignificant. Cobra's are the escorts in my own fleet, I use at least four.
I'm not so sure Firestorms are a bad thing. Try them. They don't get a lot of time on the table from what I've heard, but they look real good on paper. Give them a shot. Lots of folks are going to recommend Swords instead. Why not try the Firestorms and see first?
I think both fleets have a chance... But this one is a little more traditional. I'd still switch the Gothic out for a Lunar and have them work in concert. This fleet is probably the better of the two. If you go to 1500, put some Firestorms back and add a Battleship.
I'm guessing you saw that thread where we were discussing escorts? I've never seen four escort squadrons in one fleet before. I'd council against it, suggesting a light cruiser and at least a few launch bays in 2000 points... But a part of me would like to see how that fleet does. So I'll let other folks talk you out of it.
I am playing in the Invasion of tamius campain right now (more info on that at www.arcticbastion.com) the rules state that the tyranids get a 2000 pt fleet plus 6 transports. I got a space station, a torpedo platform, a lance platform and a battery platform. I only got to pick a 1000 pt fleet. I decided to go with a Emporer class, gothic class, 2 dauntless class (both variations) and a Firestorm escort, and a demolisher class crusier. (I think that is the name, its the one with str 12 batteries on both sides and a nova cannon)
Needless to say that small fleet actually fared pretty well against the Tyranid onslaught with the loss of only a dauntless, firestorm, and the crippling of another dauntless. Having a emperor class actually helped a lot. And took out tons of his stuff.
You had a single Firestorm? Those are supposed to be fielded in squadrons of at least three.
How well did the orbital defenses you had work? I've wondered if they wouldn't get ordnanced to death.
Thanks, for the congrats, Will!
