playing a tourny with 3 friends (high elf, Blood dragon and ORcs) and i got to thinking, they know that they will be playing my dwarfs and i usually take a pretty balanced army full of missiles and war engines, so for this tourney i decided to go all infantry and steamroll towards the enemy, so here it is guys my list

THE HAMMER

Lord: M/r swifr, r/cleave, r/fury, r/stone Gromril, shield = 225
with
20 ironbreakers: full command, r/ kadrin = 340

Runesmith: M/r spellbind, 1 dispel, great weapon gromril armour = 157
with
25 warriors, heavy armour shield, full command = 250

Thane: BSB GA M/r stromni redbeard = 188
with
20 ironbreakers full command = 290

Thane : Great weapon, gromril armour, r/stone= 67
with
26 warriors: heavy armour shield full command = 259

Thane : Great weapon, gromril armour, r/stone= 67
with
25 warriors, heavy armour shield, full command = 250

16 slayers full command = 209

20 Longbeards full command r/sanctuary

12 miners Standard bearer, champion= 168

11 Rangers: shields crossbows= 199

Model number = 164
Dispel pool = 5 (with plus one to each attempt)
2999/3000

now there are a few things ive been going over in my mind
1) i could drop 1 warrior and 1 ranger to swap the Battle standard with M/R Valaya, or i could drop the miners and take another runesmith.

2) im worried about facin a shooty & magiky high elf army, which i think would steamroll this army

3)Are rangers worth it in this army, the reason i went for them is so they can take out the biggest shooting threat before it gets a chance to roll my army, but im debating whether to give them up and use the points for more longbeards.

so there you have it, any and all comments are welcome, thanks guys

oh and i also drew up another list called raining death, so if you guys think this army is no good just give me a yell and ill post the other one

There is a couple of things I would change but the only thing I will comment is that your thanes can be tooled up much better. IMO I would drop the rangers in favour of a bit tooling up. They can be quite powerfull. Any spare points can be used to get a Gyrocopter. Its a very nice piece of work when you are on the attacking end.

thats a good idea about the thanes actually, i can give them r/cleave, r/fury and a shield each which would make them 4 str 5 attacks with a 2+ armour save, which is better then some races lords.....the gyro would be good in some respects like i might draw siege weapon fire away from the unite for a couple turns, or frying fast cav

Thanks for the ideas

The new rules make lots of your stuff cheaper and better. We can't give out exact rules or points costs here, so you'll have to go buy it.

Basically, oathstones prevent flank or rear charge bonuses, shield bearers pump your general in CC. Also a nifty runic banner called strollaz's rune that every Charging Dwarf army should at least consider.

If you want the MR spellbinding, you need more Dispel Dice. Against HE and Vamps, I'd advise more dice anyway. Swap some thanes for Runesmiths. I'd also invest in a gyrocopter or three, they ruin HE day, and can hit fastcav and war machines.

Yes, a gyrocopter would be a lot of use - it usually is in any army of Dwarfs. I think there is enough dispel already - 5 dd and a dispel. But exchanging a thane for a runesmith with 2x or 3x dispel would be neccessary against VC.

ive given alot of thought to the gyro, and i find as soon a some fast cav hit it, its gonna crash and thats 140 pts down the drain, i think you guys are right about needing another runesmith, ive got a spare character slot amd maybe the rangers are worthless anyway so how about
r/smith with 3x dispel grom and a great weapon for 157pts , leaving 43pts

if i change longbeards bak to warriors and drop the banner ill save 125, plus the 43 and ive got a gyro ok so heres the list

THE HAMMER

Lord: M/r swifr, r/cleave, r/fury, r/stone r/ resistance Gromril, shield = 250
with
20 ironbreakers: full command, r/ kadrin = 340

Runesmith: M/r spellbind, 1 dispel, great weapon gromril armour = 157
with
25 warriors, heavy armour shield, full command = 250

Thane: BSB GA M/r stromni redbeard = 188
with
20 ironbreakers full command = 290

Thane : Great weapon, gromril armour, r/stone= 67
with
26 warriors: heavy armour shield full command = 259

Thane : Great weapon, gromril armour, r/stone= 67
with
25 warriors, heavy armour shield, full command = 250

16 slayers full command = 209

Runesmith: gromril armour 3x dispel great weapon= 157
with
20 warriors heavy armour shiels full command=205

12 miners Standard bearer, champion= 168

Gyrocopter =

Model number = 155 (19.35 pts per model)

Dispel pool = 6 (with plus one to each attempt), 4 dispels, if i go for valaya (drop lords rune of resistance) ill get +3 to my dispel rolls, which (in theory) gives me an average 10 off 2 dice

2997/3000 pts

how about this one guys?

EDIT: Some point totals removed. Please do not post totals that reveal per model / item cost. Thanks. :) ~DavidVC04

Not a single unit of long beards ? True enough it gives you plenty of numbers not to field any, but you could use the brute strength, and ,magical banner allowance they get. You should also consider some on your iron breakers.

The nice thing about dwarf runic banners, it that they are infinite possibilities from thier goodness.

Here's a few ideas to get the maximum out of your runes.

RoCourage, RoDetermination

RoCourage, RoSanctuary

RoBattle, RoStoicism

3 Runes Of Sanctuary

And so on. You can also take single runes to maximise the number of a specific rune.

You also have to try a unit of hammerers with the lord, they are nearly unbreakable ^_^

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you only get 5 characters in 3000 pts?

I agree with wolf-pack that a unit of hammerers would go great with that lord, especially if your opponent fields fear or terror causing monsters. (Hammerers are upgraded in the new rules!).

Some great weapons on either hammerers or Longbeards (which become CORE units in the new book, go get it, it is fabulous), allow tasty s6 attacks also. I'd trade 1 unit ironbreakers. They are nice, but 2 is probably overkill.

why do you have a unit of 26 warriors? wierd number... I don't think I'd field units of more than 20 anymore. that way you can get more units. Then you can put some runes on some banners, or buy some small gt wpn flanking units, or something.

For points fiddling, I don't like command upgrades for miners. In my experience, they ALWAYS get killed to a man, usually by shooting. They often sack a war machine or two first, but I hate making them more expensive than necessary. AND, (in the new book, sense a theme?) you can field them in units of less than 10! Since they are either going to be flanking or attacking war machines, standards are a waste anyway. I'd get a musician and MAYBE a champion.

So, listen to me pitch the new book. pitch pitch pitch.

first game

played orcs today with this list, and it actually worked beautifully, i just used my normal denied flank routine and came off with a solid victory

2 things however, with a rolling dwarf list i hade more troubles then usual with fast cav getting me in the flanks (i hate wolfriders) and his wyvern was also a bit of trouble until i got the slayers to tie it up and flank charged it with the miners and he fled off the board. can anyone give me some advice on how to counter this?

secondly the list got a little crumpled from his magic (i hate that stomping spell aswell) Str 6 hits kill dwarves just the same as they kill elves, humans etc. i think ill have to opt for valaya against any army with remotely dangerous magic from now on.

the gyro was great for march blocking too thanks guys

Well, it sounds like you handled the wyvern well. Two things work well: War machines, and characters geared up to kill the wyvern, leaving the orc character sans mount. Especially if you have a fear-causer, but not so much with dwarves...

I'd say don't bother with Valaya, just get some more dispel scrolls.

However, with a solid victory, I don't think you have much to worry about anyway! Congrats! Death to the greenskins!
