2003 GD Wolf Priest - Possibly my favourite model...

Ok so i put down the usual army style quick painting and decided to spend longer on a mini. I spent a whole week on this piece instead of the usual couple of nights, and i took a large pic so you can see the flaws and detail.

But overall i'm quite hapy with this as a showcase piece. I know its not golden demon level, but i like the little touches, like the wood grain, the granite hammer, the detailed winged wolf skulls, the wrinkles and lines on his face etc etc.

Hope you like it as much as i do.

Nice

I like it as you sad the wood looks great also and all the small details you was talking about.. There is some things that I don’t really like, some of the metal on the bolt gun an the hammer (where the tubes are attached) don’t have the same quality as the rest of the model.

The face cool and I like how you paint bone.

I like it. I see where AndEng is coming from but I realize the model is bumped up in size and it probably looks a lot smoother at actual scale. I love the relflection lines on the armor. The face details also look nice. The base looks rather plain though (not bad by any means just a little plain).

Cheers,

Gareth,

Excellent work. It looks fantastic.

Second best model I have seen from you. Still prefare the Librarian, but that's IMO. The detail on this model is amazing. Don't hide this from the world use it in your Wolf army.

This is my favourite model that GW has produced. I fell in love with it when I saw it at Gamesday and I never even played 40K then. Now I play 40K I love it even more.

Wow buddy, looking at the two together, the progression is certainly very impressive

I don't really have much to comment on that hasn't been mentioned before, I love the wood, the SENMM-style highlighting on the black is very nice, the granite is lovely.
The only thing I don't really like is the lines on the face, but that is my personal taste, and I suspect they look much better in 'person'.

Very, very nice :)

Gareth,

I agree with -t, comparing the two together, you can see the improvement is unbelievable. I remember looking at the one you painted a year ago and thinking that it was painted really well. Now you compare the two together and the older one seems leagues behind; even though it is painted really well.

It will be nice to do another comparison in a year’s time; to see what other aspects of painting you introduce, or improve on, in your models.

Excellent work Gareth

Really nice mate.
A very impressive cllection of high-quality models in a relatively short space of time!

edit: I especially like the Dark Angels helmet on one of the Grey Hunter's bases! Very nice touch, and one that I amost missed.

I also approve of your decision to go for a power-armoured Wolf Priest from an army building point of view. In a Blood Claw pack, he is going to be nasty

When is your tournie? I wish you best of luck, and if you don't win "best army" (or equivilent) I shall be very interested to see who does!

That's some really smooth blending on the red there.

Well done.

And seeing the two together is good. I remember thinking (when I saw the old one) how I thought it couldn't get much better. It has. You are really out-doing yourself. Keep it up.

It's nice work but it feels a little bland. Maybe it is the metalics, but the colours seems to be lacking a richness which is stopping this miniture from 'popping'. But, faults and all, it is a nicely painted mini.

Very nice. I miss my GD 2003 Wolf priest..... Some dastardly villain has mine somewhere.
I'm right there with you, it is one of my favorite models of all time, and one of my best painted minis, and its gone....
