And now for something completely different

Right, after a quick overview of what I own and what I dont use as often as I like; I have come up with the following list. It follows NO conventions or standard lists that people usually put together.

The idea is that it is mixture of a static army with lots of shots and fast attack skimmers zipping all over the place getting shot at.

Here is the general idea.

HQ
Shas'el: Fireknife (Or Helios) - 97pts
Shas'el: Fireknife (Or Helios) - 97pts

TROOP
6 Firewarriors, 1 Teamleader with Markerlight - 85pts
6 Firewarriors, 1 Teamleader with Markerlight - 85pts
6 Firewarriors, 1 Teamleader with Markerlight - 85pts

11 Kroot - 77pts
10 Kroot - 70pts

ELITE
Crisis Suit - Monat, Teamleader: Fireknife w/ TA - 77pts
Crisis Suit - Monat, Teamleader: Fireknife w/ TA - 77pts

6 Stealth Suits - 180pts

HEAVY
2 Sniper Drone Squads - 160pts

FAST ATTACK
2 Piranha TX-42, Twin-linked Missile pods (Or Fusion Blasters), 1 Seeker Missile Each - 160pts
2 Piranha TX-42, Twin-linked Missile pods, 1 Seeker Missile Each - 160pts

2 Tetra Pathfinders, Targetting Array - 120pts

Total: 1500pts

Note: The Fast attack skimmers you see here are designed to stay away from the enemy and as such have weapons that have 36" range. Of course the exception is the regular Pirahna's which will operate in the usual close quarters range with fusion blasters.
Bare in mind the TX-42 could have Twin-linked Fusion blasters and cost exactly the same, or have them replaced with Plasma Rifles at a small additional cost (would have to find a few points from somewhere).

Tell me what you think?

Shas'el: Fireknife - 97pts?
Nice... yeah. That's it. You might be a bit light on super-heavy tank killing.... but I don't think that will matter much... unless you face a two-monolith list... but then, without a railgun, tau are toast anyway... so who cares!

6 Firewarriors, 1 Teamleader with Markerlight - 85pts
6 Firewarriors, 1 Teamleader with Markerlight - 85pts
6 Firewarriors, 1 Teamleader with Markerlight - 85pts
OK... I see where this is going. I'm always a bit reluctant to go with min squads, but in this case, I think they will work, as they are basically just serving as a markerlight platform.

10 Kroot - 70pts
10 Kroot - 70pts
A staple to many a good list... adding much needed firepower to the list.

Crisis Suit - Monat, Teamleader: Fireknife - 77pts
Crisis Suit - Monat, Teamleader: Fireknife - 77pts
You can't really go wrong with a monat fireknife... so yeah... good.

6 Stealth Suits - 180pts
Have you thought about going with a stealth team leader w/markerlight & TL and/or 2 markerlight drones? Just curious.

2 Sniper Drone Squads - 160pts
I don't like them, but they seem to work well for some people... good luck with them.

2 Piranha Light Skimmers, Fusion Blasters, Targetting Array, 1 Seeker Missile Each - 170pts
I like them, but I always get nervous when there are two in a unit... but it's kind of the point of the list, isn't it? Hit hard and fast, and then hope for the best.

2 Piranha TX-42, Twin-linked Missile pods, 1 Seeker Missile Each - 160pts
Man, if only these were in the Tau Codex... I'd have about a bazillion of them (which, for you laymen, is a scientific talk for "a lot of them")

2 Tetra Pathfinders, Targetting Array - 120pts
These always seem a bit of a waste for me... and here's my main point: In this list I think that i would leave the markerlighting to the stationary troops (Firewarrirors, sniper teams), and leave the utter destruction to the more mobile troops (pirahnas & suits). So I would remove this group, and either make them another TX-42 with FBs, or go for upgrades like more seekers and markerlights and perhaps another sniper drone team.

Hope it helped a bit. I like the idea of the list a lot, and i just think it needs a bit of fine-tuning to be pretty good.

Thanks for your comments there Y'he Sha'is, Im thinking I might just change my Piranhas all into TX-42's and give them all another seeker each - while changing the weapons for fusion blasters to missile pods (at no extra cost)... this will allow them to stay at range.

Reason I want to keep the Tetra's is a) I have the models, the look cool and I wanna use em b) They can move 12" and fire their markerlights (as well as pin with their TL Pulse Rifles) and c) They are the cheapest way of fielding markerlights next to using Pathfinders which are static.

I dont want to equip my Stealths with markerlights as it will slow them down.
The Sniper Drone Squad is there as static back-up for the firewarrior squads. All anti-tank shall be dealt with by the Piranha's.

List has been updated: In general this newer setup allows for me to remain as far away from the enemy as possible.
The TX-42's and Tetra's are specifically on the look out for tanks while the Kroot will be a shield wall for the Firewarriors stationed behind them - and the Sniper Drones mixed in with the lot...

How do you take down my landraider (although you won't see tons of these at 1500 pts, you might see one in my BT list)?

2 seeker missiles, and then nothing, as I rampage across the board for 3 turns? It makes me a bit nervous (read: helios commander(s) and/or suits are needed, even though I love the fireknife).

Other than that, the list is REALLY COOL (and I bet a bunch of fun to play). Let us know how it works.

Well there are 4 Seeker missiles (1 each - 4 TX-42's) and yes, you are totally correct - Monolith's and Landraider's will be a problem... I will just have to HOPE that I dont roll any 1's to hit and that I glance it with 6's to penetrate and require a miracle to roll another 6 to finish it off...

Given the above scenario, I think that I may have to change both Commanders into Helios configs... No difference in cost... List adjusted (kinda).

Alternatively I could just run one of the two squads as Fusion Blasters while the other remains with Missile Pods... hmmmm

Will be a while before I actually use this list as I want to finish painting my Tetra's as well as ordering another TX-42 Conversion kit (to take me up to a total of 2 - the other 2 will be Proxy Piranha's).

As a twist, here is another Idea... it is still fast but is considerably more.... vehicle based!

HQ
Shas'el - Fireknife w/TA - 97pts
Shas'el - Fireknife w/TA - 97pts

TROOP
12 Firewarriors, WarFish w/SMS,MT,DC&TA - 245pts
12 Firewarriors, WarFish w/SMS,MT,DC&TA - 245pts

ELITE
6 Stealth Suits - 180pts

FAST ATTACK
Piranha TX-42, Twin-linked Missile pods, 2 Seeker Missiles - 80pts
Piranha TX-42, Twin-linked Missile pods, 2 Seeker Missiles - 80pts

2 Tetra Pathfinders, w/ TA - 120pts

HEAVY
Hammerhead, w/Railgun,BC,MT,DC,TL - 170pts
Hammerhead, w/Twin-Linked Fusion Cannon,SMS,MT,DC,TL - 160pts

Total: 1494pts

Is radically different but the idea is that I still get to utilize my shiney TX-42's and Tetras... and the fact that now the table is filled with tanks, well... which ones to shoot at?

Commanders will be sitting behind the tanks shooting at whatever they want... gotta love the skimmers dont block LOS rule eh!

Note the Fusion Cannon Hammerhead... im really looking forward to using this as I foresee it doing some serious damage (same rules as a multi-melta but twin-linked).

The only thing in this new list without BS 4 or higher is the Firewarriors.
