It's quite well painted but for me the colour choice isn't the best. Green and purple? I didn't think they worked that well, personally I find my eyes drawn towards the green more than anything else. And the flame. You've got it wrong. The centre of the flame is the hottest and therefore the brightest, ideally it should go something like this: white > light yellow > yellow > light orange > orange > light red > red with a slight bit of black on the very tips. That's a broad range and you might not want to take it so but generally that is how it should look.

But overall, he's a good mini. Now base him. ;)

The flame is a nice touch. I have an old marine liket hat knocking arround somewhere you've just inspired me to do something slightly like yours with it so thank you.

The mini overall seems to be ok there are a few shaky areas but nothing too noticable and im just being picky so ignore them:) . The only thing i dont like about the mini is the big mace/drumstick thing but i guess you do and its yours so you know, keep it. It gives it some character though, that it is for definate.

Keep it up.

I think the result you have here is very good. As others have said you could work on the flame some more. However this is a minor concern. A flame effect like that is really going to make him stand out in a game and definetely get peoples attention.

I don't have a problem with the green and purple colour scheme at all. I use plenty of green and prple on my Tyranids and they look fine. Of course I use the colours differently but I think it is a good colour scheme and good work.

Thanks everyone. I like the purple and green, i wanted my chapter to sort of stand out from the others at the place i play (mostly solid red and blue marines, go figure that out). I still havn't figured out the chapter history yet, but since i am building all my marines with beaky heads i was thinking pre-heresy emperors children (or loyalist for post heresy campaigns) since they are generally shown as having purple being their base color.

His force weapon is supposed to be a 2-handed maul/mace kind of thing and its made of greenstuff wrapped around a paperclip (for extra strength). I decided to go with this as the force weapon because you dont really see much stuff like that in the 40k line and it just adds that extra bit if uniqueness to the model that makes me like it so much. If you notice too, the older models are slightly more slim in the torso area than the new models are (which is why the shoulder pads look huge on him and give him that sort of hulking feel) the huge mace sort of adds to the pissed-off, hulking, i'm going to kick your ass kind of feel that this dude gives off. I'm going to base him soon, i am waiting to get some tomb king sprues to use as bones on the base. If you notice all the dudes in the background are all unbased for the same reason.

Overall not a bad figure and I do indeed like the idea of a unique looking figure. I think the letdown with the flame is mostly the black rod holding it to the hand. It would have been nice to sculpt the flame coming directly from the hand. Not too critical but that is what I would have done.

I have mixed feeling about the really old figures as they just don't have the details. Yet they still hold some charm.

Color wise not my cup of tea but if you like it that is what matters. I would probably add a little more lighter highlights to make him pop all the more.

Cheers,

-Mike
