Get plasticard (also called styrene) rod from a hobby shop. In whatever size you like. Then cut the rod into little "slices" and there you have it. Rivets. Easy huh?

If the rod has a central hole in it, do as psipher said then stick the resulting "hoop" to the model and fill the central hole with GS.

You can also buy pre-made resin rivets from hobby stores and online, but there is little need to use them as the plasticard rod works very well.

Another option is just to make the rivets out of GS - apply a tiny amount of GS to the area you want the rivet, then sculpt it into the desired shape.

two ways i like to do rivets:

1) take a nail, dip it in white glue, then press onto the surface you're working on. This works well on foamcore terrain pieces (buildings, bulkheads) because you can depress the surface and get more on there. Quick and looks decent.

2) use a leather punch ( like the one pictured below) Decide on a size of rivet you want (diameter) and decide on a thickness (thickness of the plasticcard) and just start punching them out. I got one of these from my grandfather when he passed away, but the site i found this image on (Leather Tools & Care-Outfitters Supply) had them for as little as 18$. I'm sure you could find one on ebay or at a pawn shop for significantly less.

Oh, and they come in really handy when your belts don't fit (can't afford food with all the minis i buy :p )
