I just got my nid codex and some nid models. Here is what I have so far:
20 gaunts with fleshborers (from Macragge set)
22 Stealers
16 Hormagaunts (talons)
16 gaunts (no weapons on these guys yet)
1 carnafex
1 hive tyrent
3 warriors
2 Zoanthropes
1 Lictor
2 Raveners
3 ripper bases
Is this a good start? What should I focus on next to round out the army more?
As far as weapons go I have a ton of small rare earth magnets that I will use to swap out weapons. I already have them on my carnafex and my tyrent so I can load them out with just about any weapon. I'm having trouble moslty with the warriors with what to load them with, should I make them CC or shooty, what seems to work out better?
Where to from here? That sort of depends upon what you want your army to play like.
Fast attack? Maybe more hormagaunts, and ravenors
Horde? You've pretty much got that covered.
Big fellahs? Another couple of Carnifex's
I reckon you might need another carnifex anyway, just to give you a bit of anti tank/infantry, depending upon which way you kit out the tyrant and the other fex.
Looks good. I'd get the third Zoanthrope and either another Carnifex or another Hive Tyrant (you really do need another big guy) and possibly some Tyrant Guard.
As for the Warriors... I wouldn't use them at all. They generally don't perform very well... There are better ways to spend your points. But, if you'd like to use them anyway, I'd make them shooty (deathspitters and a barbed strangler).

Like Solo said it really all depends on what kind of list your looking for. If you like seeing your opponents face realizing you outnumber him 3 or even 4 to one, or do you want an army of MC's 4-6 monstrous creatures that each have at least 4 wounds? You can even have an entire genestealer army if you get a broodlord.
The best kind of warriors IMO are cc ones with rending claws, scything talons, leaping and extended carapace.
Id go with spine gaunts for those gaunts. give them scuttle and they are exactly the same as hormagaunts but cheaper!
For expanding id say get a broodlord another fex or two and maybe some gargoyles.
As it is now, you already have a very playable army. Perhaps you should try a few games before you buy anything new, then you can see what works and what you want more of.
I would finish off some of these units. You could get a third Zoanthrope and perhaps expand the Raveners to include six models. You could also find a few Spore mines handy, three of each type of Spore mine. You don't have to get Biovores to go with them if you don't want them.
These Spore mines can be bought as a fast attack choice in a spore cluster. Spore clusters don't cost much and they can be handy for dropping on people at some random point in the game. They are also useful in that they are cheap. This means if you have made an army list and you still have twenty or thirty points left you can spend these spare points on some cheap Spore mines.
