Wood Elf tactica - Contributors Needed

Hey guys, what do you think about putting our (read: your) heads together and coming up with a wood elf tactica written by the members of LO? This seems to be one of the most active forums with a number of the mods playing woodies, and I think we could come up with something good. If this works we could extend it to all the army sub forums.

I can't find anything in the FB tactica forum or in the WE index where LO has written a WE tactica.

This thread can be used for posting thoughts and comments about the idea, if there is enough (read: any) support then I'll start a thread in the tactica section of FB for people to submit their articles. Then I'll link it in the WE index at the top of this forum:)

It can be as long or short as you want. If you want to only write a short paragraph on the best way to use glade riders then go for it. If you would rather write an entire review of every item in the book then that's great too! The idea behind getting lots of people to put their heads together is that one person is not bogged down with the responsibility of writing the whole thing!

So what do you think? Is you in or is you in?

Ciao

Edit: This is a thread to sign up for contributions to the WIP, and to give each section exposure to comments and criticism before being put in the actual Tactica thread. Each section will be moved to the WIP Tactica thread after one week of being posted in this thread.

The WIP tactica thread may be found here

There is no time frame. Of course David will get his chance to contribute. It would be wrong to ignore the musings of one of the forum's most experienced WE players! :)

So I'll give it a couple of days for people to think about how much they want to write. Then I'll start a thread in tactica:) Remember, you can write as much or as little as you want!

Aha, a project! It's a shame I'm shortly going to disappear from the forums for a couple of months, and will therefore be unable to contribute. :hmm:

Ah well. It's a great idea though. Though I might be able to knock something out next week if somebody lobs a topic my way... :shifty:

double post ftw.

Right, here are some ideas I have come up with. They are, of course, subject to change if necessary:)

Unit types - A run down of the pros and cons of the unit choices in a Wood Elf army.

Magic Items - A run down of the pros and cons of all the magic items open to the Wood Elves.

Deployment - Give yourself the early advantage by deploying correctly, this section of the tactica will show you how

Use of non-forest Terrain - We can't move hills or castles, but we can make the most of them. This section shows you how to exploit the part of the battlefield you don't have control over

Use of Woods - Where to place your free wood and how to use it. Also how to exploit woods naturally occurring on the table

The opening turns - The game is only 6 turns long, so each turn must be decisive. Like a master chess player, this part of the tactica will help you improve your opening turns, so that you set yourself up nicely for the mid game

The end game - With turn 6 only a few moments away, this part of the tactica runs through all the things you need to be thinking about to ensure you squeeze out every last VP in the final turn.

The principles of attack - When and where to strike. How to fight on your terms.

The principles of defence - When confronted by an uber unit do you hold or flee? This part of the tactica shows you how to dance rings around your opponents offensive units.

This is what I have so far. Any thoughts?

Just to expand on Stoney's list, I came up with this. Just some suggestions on stuff we might want to cover - easily scrapped if nobody wants this kind of structure. I may have missed a couple of things, so pick away as you see fit.

EDIT: The list has been moved to the first post in the forum, so we all know where to find it.

Really only needs to get the point across. I don't think it should be a point-by-point analysis of each section, more an overview of the lore - benefits of each spell, best circumstances to use the spell, etc. Stoney may think differently, but it seems like we want this to be informative without the sections being outrageously long.

Anybody else want to claim a section?

I want in on this. It doesn't really matter to me what you have me do for it though. I am game more for the Asrai parts vs tree spirits though. I don't have tons of expirence, but I think I know a good bit. I can do a bit on Eternal Guard and/or Wardancers or the like. Whatever you wish, I do as my Mod commands!

Well, I have preached about Glade Rider uses, so I guess it's only right that I take them.

Another one I wouldn't mind is Waywatchers, but I can tend to be a bit of a suicidal general, so I may not be the best, but I do have a few good tactics for them.

Is there a limit on the amount we can take? Otherwise, I can can do either or. Of course, if I don't get WW's I can just PM whoever IS doing them my tactics.

Well, this is really Stoney's bag, but I don't see anything wrong with people taking multiple sections. For the magic items and spites section, people could even chime in for an individual item, as far as I can tell.

The only concern I'd have is from my previous point about doing one section at a time. I'll put you down for glade riders for now.

Looks like it's all going well so far:)

What I was thinking was if people post their submissions in this thread. I will start a thread in the tactica forum and as more people submit their articles I will add it to the thread in the tactica. That way the final article will be one large post/document, rather than a continuous thread of posts which can be very tiresome to read.

When we have finished I'll link the thread in the wood elves index and we can all stand back and admire our work. Hopefully it will serve as a valuable aid to new players and members:)

EDIT: Ok the thread is up in the tactica forum. There's not much to it at the moment but hopefully that will soon change. Feel free to submit your articles when you like (or you can either PM them to me or misanthrope if you would prefer) and we'll add them to the thread.

There are still plenty more slots to be taken up. I'll talk to Misanthrope a little later and maybe we can post a list of who's writing what, which will make it a bit clearer what still needs to be written.

It's looking good guys!:)

can we have a structure to each individual section everyones writing so we keep continuity throughout the entire tactica, eg have the following sub-headings:

Strengths
Weaknesses
Unit Options and Composition (where relevant)
Magic Item / Spite - Options & Uses (where relevant)
Tactics
Deployment

etc..

id like to do wildriders

If you want to follow a structure like that, be my guest. As for other contributors, I don't want to make any assumptions for people's willingness or ability to spend time on this. I would rather see someone contribute just a paragraph than give them an entire structure and have them not finish it.

I like your idea, and I think it's a great guideline to shoot for, but people shouldn't feel that they must either do it in this fashion or not at all.

I'm going to grab up a section to get started. Hopefully will have it ready later today.

I saw Stoney's thread (in the Tactica section), but that seems to be locked.
The drafts can either be posted in this thread or sent to either myself or misanthrope via pm. The completed tactica thread is locked as I'm going to update the opening post myself as people start to submit articles. That way the tactica will be confined to one page rather than many posts:)

It's a great idea. I can't contribute much until I get a home connection. There are three or four GW WE tactica on their website. They should be linked in the index, unless I made some gross oversight. They're a good starting point, but there are enough players here with different army builds and outlooks to do something really unique.
