2247 points, 5 DD, 2 scrolls.

A very minor variation from an earlier list, I've sacrificed my second unit of warriors to add slayers and quarrellers. Quarrellers and Thunderers guard the war machines, which in turn guard the flanks of my army and force enemy to approach or be shot to pieces. Hammerers (w/ Lord), warriors (w/ Runesmith) and longbeards (w/ BSB) take the field. Hammerers hold or win through damage, longbeards win through +6 static CR (7 if I outnumber) and the runesmith challenges something weak into the warriors. Slayers help guard war machines, flank for hammerers, distract monsters/nasty enemy, or whatever else seems like a good idea, as necessary.

Thoughts, and especially the reasoning behind the thoughts, are appreciated.

not too shabby a list but I would like to point out that your rune smith is carrying 80 points worth of runes putting him over his limit. I personally would suggest switching the master rune of challenge to the dwarf lord so he and his hammerers can be deployed against the hardest units the enemy has to offer or divert something of particular worry from a weak point in your lines with confidence.

Ooops, your right about the rune of stone. Turns out I had already removed it from the list in terms of points, but hadn't crossed it out. No freebees for me! I've edited it out of my post.

I like the MR of challenge on the runesmith because I can leave the MR of Spite on the lord, and I've needed it occasionally. And occasionally I run the runesmith into other units so he can use up the MR of challenge to get people into contact with the correct unit.

Thanks for the thoughts!

This revision was done to incorporate the Master Rune of Balance. It involved taking Arklite's suggestion (thanks!) of moving the MR of Challenge to the Lord, and gearing up a bunch of magic resistance and chariot killing bolt throwers in order to combat High Elves.

The game I then played against the HE was a major victory for me, despite several irresistable force spells by the HE. I missed the chariots completely with the bolt throwers, but ended up sniping vulnerable elven mages when they left their units prior to CC! Nothing like an elf mage with a 6' spear sticking out of its head! (Except of course for an elf archmage with a 6' spear sticking out of its head, but that was a different game.)

To fight other foes, I shift some points out of anti-magic (drop banner-runes of sanctuary first) and anti-chariot, and bump the slayers up to 12, buy up to 2 giant slayers, and/or purchase a dragon-slayer hero to run around with. I've definately been on a slayer kick lately, they killed a chariot and held up a unit of 21 swordmasters for 3 turns (6 CC phases!) in my last couple of games.

Cheers!
