Currently at 1489, not quite sure what to do with Crisis suit configs. I will probably look over a tactica later in the week...but any advice is apreciated, Greater Good Mi Amigos'

HQ
Commander Shas'el
Cyclic Ion Blaster, Burst Cannon
Multi-tracker

78pts
CIB is okay, but the Burst Cannon... eh, don't really tend to like it. I'd personally use a Plasma Rifle/Missile Pod/Targeting Array/HW Multitracker combination for maximum death potential, while still being long enough range to keep your Suit away from enemy shooting and CC using its IC status. Runs you 97 points, and that BS5 is ultra nice.

Elites
XV8 Shas'ui
Flamer & Fusion Blaster, Team Leader
Targeting Array, HW Multi-tracker

61pts

Flamers and Fusion Blasters are two incredibly short ranged weapons, and two completely different weapons. One goes for high armour and the other goes for light infantry - don't mix like this! I'd recommend a Plasma/Missile Pod combination, a Plasma/Fusion combination, or a twin-linked Missile Pod/Targeting Array combination.

I typically run these guys with Shas'ui for the extra Leadership. You could take two Fire Warriors out of each squad, add Shas'ui for each, then use the extra 30 points to upgrade the Crisis Suits above.

Add Decoy Launchers, otherwise great.

Incredibly static... I don't think they have a place in a mobile list such as this. Also, if you do take them, you'll need a Target Lock on a team leader for each, to target as many vehicles as possible. The only other qualm is the Multi-tracker - they will rarely use their other weapons, and the A.S.S. will help keep them more mobile.

Personally, if you wanted to keep them both, I'd recommend running two squads of two, each with A.S.S. and a team leader with HW Target Lock. Just me, though - I'd prefer another two Hammerheads.

Hammerhead
w/ion cannon & two burst cannons
Mult-tracker & Targeting Array

130pts
The cost is actually 125, as the Targeting Array comes standard on Hammerheads. :) Nice, isn't it? With those 5 points, I'd buy Decoy Launchers (almost a must for all Tau vehicles, really) and the total will be the same.

Overall not a bad list for a first attempt, most of the serious work needs to be done in your HQ and Elites section!

Hope this gives some food for thought.

I'm hesitant to add Decoy Launchers, because preventing a glancing immobilised hit just doesn't seem that frequent (1/6).

But I intend to change the Crisis suits like you've said.

HQ---Will the assault jet move be useful for finding terrian or what should I use it for with your configuration? (97pts)

Eliltes---Like your configuration, will look to maximize the range rather than try to have an assault counter.

I'm avoiding Kroot (Probably because I played tyranids and don't want assault monsters), but are they the Tau counter assault. And I really want an armor save (I hated +6).

I will consider adding Shas'ui (does the entire squad get leadership?)
Are bonding knives useful or too many points?

I'm also wondering if markerlights are worth the points.

What does eveyone think of Rail Gun Hammerheads in comparison to Broadsides?
Yes the whole squad will get the benefits of your squad leaders increased leadership (until he dies)
At 5 points for bonding, I always field my Firewarriors with it. The ability to regroup below half strength for only 5 points is a bargain IMO.
As for broadsides vs hammerheads, it depends what style army you play. Broadsides for static, hammerheads for mechs. Hammerheads are 10 times as mobile, and have the submunitions which is a huge plus. Id generally go with Hammerheads.

Thanks!

I've really wanted a static list, because the possiblilty of 9 twin-linked 10str. AP1 attacks is a swweeetttt propisition, I also like pissing guys off though and the assault move of the Crisis suits is fun.

You've been a lot of help, but now I'm torn between a static list and a mec. list.

Oh well, its a good kind of dilemma.

If only submunition was 10 str. 1 AP

I should give vehicles Decoys and multi-trackers right?

(So, all hits are glancing on 7inch move, and so I can still shoot?)

The solution: a 'hybrid' list. Use static elements, and Mech elements, and voila. A Hybrid variant.

I only give Multitrackers to Devilfish when I upgrade them fully to 'Warfish,' which is using the Smart Missile Systems and Targeting Arrays. Some give them Multitrackers either way, so it's really up to you. I always give my vehicles Decoy Launchers (except Piranhas) and always give Hammerheads Multitrackers, no matter what.

The Skimmers Moving Fast rule as detailed by the 40k rulebook (make sure to look it up and read it!) states that any skimmer that moves over 6" gets to count all penetrating hits as glancing. One of the best assets of a Mech Tau list.

Moving over 6"

yeah, reading that section really warmed me up to decoys and It seemed like, from what you said, anything with guns you always want shooting should have multi-trackers.

I'd probably be the first to put Multi-trackers on a pirahna (codex doesn't even allow it:cry:)

SUPERFAST vehicle!?!?! heh

I might go for a battlesuit heavy list giving me statics and a meq look.
