I am slightly disappointed :(

Let me explain, I am completely happy with the new army book (errors and oversights though it may have).

It's the Vampire models that I am disappointed with. I was so looking forward to GW continuing its trend of hero boxes, like with the Empire Battle Wizard, the Orc Hero Box, and both the HE Noble and Mage sets.

But it ends up that we get stuck with a plethora of Special Character models (while quite nice, not what I am looking for) and 2 vampires, neither of which are mounted, and one of which has a massive, ugly wing that dominates the rest of what would be a nice model.

Now I know many people will call for conversions and greenstuff, but there are some of us that really aren't very good at this art stuff (I paint ok, but anything beyond that comes out horrible)

Is there any hope of getting anything like what the High Elves and Empire have for their Lord/Hero models?

--EDIT--

By Dissapointed, I actually meant Disappointed in the title :p

So...i am the only one who actually loves 100% the new VC models...!The vamp with the wing is supposed to work as a more feral version,i actualy like it,except that gargoyle thing but its easy to make it go.While the other female is the aristocrat one...ugly face is somehow the true nature of that vamp compared to her clothes,i like that irony..Mannfred and vlad are hardcore...i dont know,i just love them all. xD

Well all the old vamp models are still available through mail order apparently, so if you don't like the new ones you can get them.

Don't get me wrong, I like the female aristocratic vampire. The Bestial vampire would be a little better if its wing didn't dominate the model as much, at least in my opinion.

I guess my biggest problem is the lack of mounted vampires. I saw all these great new models, having to go back to the sub par vampire models from the previous edition just for a mounted vamp would make me sad.

I guess I might try my hand at conversion. Maybe the bestial vampire torso (minus the wing) with a blood knight mount+ lance arm.

I like the new books and I like almost all the new models. I didn't like the female vamp until I saw it in person. The winged one I think is maybe the coolest one, though painting that wing looks like a challenge.

But I agree with Demandred. I was really hoping for a plastic kit that would let me customize my vamps.

And the ghouls. I like them better in person, too, but for rank and file core troops, that's quite the paint job. Knowing how long it takes me to paint, that alone might turn me off.

I've already started buying Reaper Minis (living in the same city as their HQ is very cool and very dangerous when it comes to spending money). Check out the Dire Drake, awesome model for a zombie (skeleton) dragon.

And search their site for "spectre," "wraith," and "ghost." Lots of cool figs for spirit hosts (still, I think, one of the best VC units you can get).

Maybe there will be something special coming out for the 25th anniversary of Warhammer?

I wouldn't mind seeing a plastic box, but to be honest I'm happy with the Vampires I have at the moment - I'm still intending to use the old Lahmia Vampire models. So, should a plastic Vampire Lord (or Lady) ever come out, I'm not all that sure I would use it.

Maybe just as a side project, perhaps. And I have thought about getting some miniatures from other manufacturers in the future, but again that can wait for a while.

@DavidVC04 - what made you like the female Vampire once you saw it in person? I've only seen images, and admittedly haven't been that impressed with it. It looks better when you see it, does it?

Brett, in the photos it looks really twiggy. I was thinking, "C'mon, not even the undead have waists like that!" But it was the photos, not the model. It has nice detail, but I'm not crazy about the peacock fan behind her head.

The 25th anniversary bit seems to mainly be selling the dice, the "silver" carrying case, and those crazy army deals, like 20 wild riders and 10 treekin or whatever it is. I haven't seen anything substantial about special releases.

Seems that Harry is the only new model associated with the event. You'd think if there were more it would have at least leaked by now. The guy who runs my LGS did army deals for the ones GW didn't do.
Got:
Mannfred
20 Skeletons
20 Dogs
5 Spirit Hosts
Varghulf
New Army Book

for 30% off retail in store!

The selection of new vampires does seem a bit weak for the launch, but I do love all of the new models. Can't wait to paint Mannfred. In favor of conversions, they do all have extremely open poses, very easy to work with. (Ever tried to dremel the bolter out of a Sister of Battle's grasp?)

I can see why they didn't do plastic vampires with the massive variety of pieces they would need, almost limitless. But I really can't see why we didn't get a plastic necromancer kit... We would be the first army of 7th ed to not get a plastic hero kit, and I believe DE (released later this year) are getting one.

I'm a bit disappointed with the vampire models too, none of them really impress me that much. I've only seen Konrad in person though, who was not bad. Vlad is ok, but the rest are meh. I really don't like the winged one, it should make both wings at once. And what is going to happen to his magic sword when the other arm turns into a wing? A friend and I are going to convert one to have a bottle of red bull instead of the sword, becase RED BULL GIVES YOU WIIIIINGS. :p

Of course, the good thing about VC is you can literally use any model from any army to represent a vampire. Give it fangs, pale skin and dark clothes and you have a vampire. None of mine use GW vampire models. I used Eltharion and the sweet sweet Wood Elf noble with great weapon for two of my vamps.

*gasp* A Wood Elf as a vamp?! I would never condone such a thing...er...mostly because I already use that model as the base to a 40k Witch Hunter Lord. ;)

But, really, I agree you can use most any model as a vamp with a bit of modeling. Hmm...Dwarf vamps. That would make me laugh.

I actually agree, that is one of my few beefs with the new armybook, i converted a banshee to use as a vampiress as i disliked the new model and i already have a previous edition lahmian.

I actually like the winged vampire and the named character models. It's just that they weren't what i was looking for in my particular army and the new vampiress is just plain ugly.

I also dislike the new wolves, but then, with the new skeletons and such i can hardly complain! ;Y
