Fearless units automatically pass any and all morale tests they are called to make. As the two examples you give are both morale tests, they are effectively immune.
While a morale test is a type of leadership test, a leadership test is NOT (neccessarrily) a morale test. Fearless units are only immune to Morale and Pinning tests, so don't worry the diresword still work on fearless units.
The murkiest part of this situation is when something causes a Leadership test with the result being an automatic pin, as with the Dark Eldar Horrorfex. By the letter, it can in fact pin a fearless unit since fearless only protects them from the pinning test itself, but most everyone is going to cry cheese and say you can't do that. I don't blame them, because it's about as much of an exploit as you can find.
But I guess that's just my way of railing against an ability that removes a major part of the game.
