Hello. I'm fairly new to Warhammer 40k and I recently started out playing Eldar. I've attempted to create a balanced Eldar list, but I seem to get torn asunder when I play against Imperial Guard. I've posted my current army list below. Hope you guys can tell me where I got my weak spots...

HQ - Farseer, with Doom and sining spear 83 pts

Troops - 10 Dire avengers, including Exarch with dual shuricats 137 pts
- wave serpent, with twin-linked missile launchers and spirit stones 130 pts
- 14 Guardian Defenders, with scatter laser 127 pts
- 5 Guardian Jetbikes, with warlock with singing spear and destructor 168

Heavy Support - Wraithlord with missile launcher and wraithsword (2x flamers) 125 pts
Fire prism
Fire prism
Total: 1000 (On the spot) - 3 scoring units and 8 Kill points

Tactics: Farseer joins guardians and avengers jumps into the wave serpent. The wraithlord and Farseer / guardian unit forms my centre piece unit (Farseer removes wraithsight), avengers and jetbikes flank my opponent, meanwhile my fire prisms dart around the map providing fire support and moves into position so that they may contest an objective at turn 5.

Comments and Criticism are most welcome! Thank you.

DAs can start in the transport if its their dedicated transport. its a balanced list, but i resomend some swooping hawks if its IG you have trouble with. ultimate harrasment unit and cheaper i think (i dont have the codex near me right now). if your going to have a wraithsword the wraithlord has to get in cc. move the farseer up behind the wraithlord and make sure your opponent has as little true LOS as possible (line of sight). what exactly does the IG player crush you with? is he in chimeras, or shear leman russ and bassilisk?

Thanks for reply, Blasterdude3.

You asked me what I'm facing when I meet IG, and in a 1000 pts army he squeezes in a Leman russ battle tank, Hellhound, 1 Chimera with a vet squad, a squadron og sentinels (3 armed with autocannons), Company command squad and a single infantry platoon with 1 chimera for platoon command squad.

I've tried to balance my list as good as possible (having 5+, 4+ and 3+ save squads as troops) along with a wraithlord and mobile tanks... my units are killed on 2+ by the leman russ in the open, killed by the hellhound while in cover on 2+, and my tanks are getting focused down by all those autocannons. In my last battle, the only thing that actualy achieved something was my wraithlord, who took out the whole vet squad + chirmera and soaked up loads of dmg.

I like the Idea you gave me about picking swooping hawks as a harrasment unit, but I fear that his hellhound or leman russ will take them out once they deploy.... after all, they're 21 points for units who die on 2+ without cover save allowed... and its exactly the fact that my units die so easily, that seems to be my main issue. If I don't a good start of the game, I seem to be left with only a handful of units before I get achieve something. As I went through the codex I couldn't find any unit to counter his setup except for a seer counsil on bikes (but they are just too expensive in a 1000 pts army imo).

And there is your problam, your not fast enough. And army like that needs to be punched in the face. Look in to some scorpions with a claw and shadowstrike so you can charge and eliminate his vehicles after outflanking. If he has a russ that's where your heavy weapons wanna be pointed, the sooner you take it out the less fire power you have to deal with later.the hellhound must also be a top priority target, it can AP most of the things in your army and even in cover. Any oppurtunity that presents itself you need to charge him. Gl in your next game

I see your point. I actualy do got a squad of scorpions painted and ready for the tabletop, but didn't seem to be able to fit them in pointwise in the 1k list. Any suggestions to how I could afford them? By adding speed to my army, my first guess would be that you want me to leave out my wraithlord (it being left behind by serpents and jetbikes). Only problem is that my wraithlord is the only thing that seems to be able to stop his advancing chimeras (remember that chimeras also got heavy flamers = 2+ no cover save allowed eldar killing machines) and vets got 3x melta guns. Imo there are simply too many priority targets for me to deal with. Never the less, I do appreciate your suggestions and I will try 'em out. But theoretically I just do not think that additional speed is the answer.

As for another Idea; would an avatar backed up by my already existing wraithlord be daft? It is immune to melta, flame weapons, got 4+ inv save against battle cannon, and the odds of a guardsman hitting him is like winning the lottery... It will get left behind for certain, but having an unstoppable advancing centre piece force is what I would fear as an Imperial guard player.
.... Just a few thoughts of mine :)
