What Army Should I Start?

I was deadset on playing Dark Elves, read through the Army Book a few times, fell in love with the fluff, the models are pretty nice too, and I just love some of the rules. The whole cold blooded killers tickles me in a way that really nothing else can, and they're graceful in movement and fast. It just touches my heart.

But, I was reading the Vampire Count codex, and now I feel the same way towards Lahmia. The whole evil seduction hits hits annother part of my heart. And the concept of having leathal murderous, beautiful women is great, definately one of my loves. But they are different to the Dark Elves, they walk up to their enimy and just turn their own heart against them. Which is just a void that cold blooded assassins killing everyone in a mad bloodlust can't fill.

If I play Dark Elves, it's going to cost quite allot more. Since I love cavalry, I'd be buying massloads of Dark riders. And if I were to play Vampire Counts I'd be taking loads of Dire Wolves, I could actually get 20 models for 60$ (bitz ordering just the wolf bodies) with them, 4 times as much as with Dark Riders.

Then, for Dark Elves, I have the amazing War Hydra at my fingertips (I'm a huge fan of dragons and such), where as Lahmia doesn't have anything like that. But then I could also play Tomb Kings (looked through their Army Book too, infact I've looked through nearly all of the Army Books, and have them all here with me because I borrowed them from my friends, sadly I have to pay them a buck a book for rent), and they have the amazing Bone Giant. And the Bone Giant is one of my favorites, not because of the model, but because of the picture in the codex, which I would convert the model to look exactly like.

Then, the Dark Elves have bolt throwers and repeater crossbows.

But the Tomb Kings don't offer much on the lines of a Dragon, which is one my my major reasons in playing Fantasy, so they are pretty much out the window, but damn do I love the Bone Giant model.

And then the Lizardmen have the Slaan which is great, and I love the one special slaan character model. Sadly I hate the lizardmen models, and could never play them.

Anyway, here's a synopsis of the great points in my mind about the armies.

Dark Elves:
Great Cavalry
War Hydra
The best Dragon out of the other choices
Graceful leathal cold blooded killers (my kind of girls).
Bolt Throwers

Lahmia:
Dire Wolves.
Dragons which can be used by more characters
Mages that can wear armour
Undead (definately cool)
Invocation of Nehmek
Seduction

Tomb Kings:
Bone giants
Great magic
Undead

Lizardmen:
Slaan

Wood Elves:
Dragons
(I need to look into them more)

Human Armies:
No.

Dwarves:
No.

Chaos:
Most likely a no. Don't really want to look into them, their rules are waaaay to complex and Tzeentch still has to test for magic (unlike in 40k). And Slaanesh isn't as great now. And I hate the other two with a passion.

Ogre Kingdoms:
They look like me.
Not really my kind of army though, reminds me of the mother/son serial killer (the son was like a baby and the mom killed for him).

Orks and Goblins:
No, I hated them in 40k, I hate them here?

Skaven:
Gag.

just do not do wood elves, i collected them for about a year, but then realised that the reason i was being slaughtered every time is that I was collecting a bad army, not my skills. Now I collect Dwarves and I beat almost everyone i face.

From what I hear from you, you like vampire counts and Dark elkves the most, right?! :)

Lahmia is said to be the worst vampire type ( I heard) so take that in your mind.

If you want to do a killer dark elves list, you could use assasins and shades and what you like, witch elves :p

You also shouldn't use an army made of dark riders, cause that's just too much of the same models.

Wood elves aren't bad cllzzrd, they are one of the most irritating lists out there, and are one of the better races.SO it's not about the list, really, I mean it.
Maybe you have to build another kind of list ( archers, wardancers and dryads are always good in combinations)

Yes, Lahmians have a bad reputation. There's a thread in the VC forum debating them. But the VC army does let you play a lot of variations. Blood Dragons are fabled character killers. Von Carstein are good all around. Necrarchs have awesome magic. And Strigois, if used well, are vicious killers too.

Necromancers can't wear armor (except, if I remember rightly, for the Bone Armour, which disappears after the first failed armor save). Not all vampires can wear armor either. Lahmians can't. You have to rely on ward saves and restoring lost health with Invocation of Nehek.

Anyhow, VC's the army I started with a few months back and I have a blast playing them. On the other hand, I didn't have a blast getting my butt kicked by a much more experienced Dark Elf general just last week. Those crossbows are nasty. And that's something else about VC: no missile weapons (except that the Lahmian can take a magic bow made just for her--aint it sweet?--and the banshee's howl occurs during the shooting phase).

Anyhow, have fun :)

Well, as you can see the armies I want to start are going to be a challange (which I love, and I wouldn't have it any other way). And yes, it's pretty much between Dark Elves and Lahmia. Either one from what I hear can be amazing if used correctly. And after starting with Dark Eldar in 40k, I'm quite used to challanges.

Lahmia has an amazingly high initiative, which is great. And, ya you're rght only Blood Dragons can wear armour. But I hate their models.

The other possibility would be for me to play whatever the Necromancer baced army is. I love magic. But, still, I like Lahmia the most out of any of them.

And Dark Elves are currently the home ground and the Vampire Counts are challanging them. And it's neck in neck for which I like better.

I love both dark and necromancery, but I like Necromancery better.

Invocation of Nehmek is amazing.

And I wish that the Vampire Counts had some monstrous rare creature. Because if they did (especially a Bone Giant) I would definately be sold. But that's what's really giving me the most trouble, allong with the fact that the Vampire Count dragon isn't as nice as the Dark Elf one.

Anyway, right this second, Vampire Counts are winning.

You said you liked the lithe, vicious killer aspect alot. If you played Lahmians, the only such models would be your Vampire heroes; the rest of the army is a shambling horde of rotting death. If you play Dark Elves, most of the army has that quality to them. I just wanted to make sure you realized that undead armies are not as graceful as Elven ones, although they do have other qualities that help them.

Dark elves have much more tactical flexibilty, cause Vc are much about just pushing your army forward, and making new regiments while doing that.

Dark elves have got a hero choice which has the funny name: ''ASSASIN''
I bet you know what he can do ;)

Yes, I did realise this. Chances are either way I'm going to do both armies, it's just a matter of which army I do right now.

Hes right archonofdeath,DE have more lithe models, but I have one really kinda strange idea...Undead Dark Elves, played with necrmancy too much and Poooth! they are undead. You get the cool DE models and lahmian models and necromancy.Everyones a winner.

Imagine an undead Dark elf dragon! Or converted witch elves to look like they are phasing in and out of life and death. (Y) Anyway out of thouse two without combining, I'de say Dark elves.

Because I've been playing 40k for a few years and want to play fantasy because in my mind it's a far better game and more people in my area are playing it so it is now actually worth it to play.

And don't be biased towards one game system and tell people to go toit instead of the one they want to.

--Edit--
Alright, I'm going for Vampire Counts. As I said they were both about equal but it was the price cost that got me. I can take 4 units of 5 dire wolves for 60$ (bits order) as opposed to the same (point wise) number of Dark Riders for 100$ (10 models).

And the basic units are cheaper. As of right around now (I don't have a job and live with my sister but get like 80$ a month until I graduate) cheaper is kinda gunna be better. But over the summer I should get a job, finish off this army, then work on DE.

The beauty of doing a Vampire Counts army is the ability to change your lord's bloodlines and keep your core army similar. There's no reason you can't change from blood dragon, to lahmian to von carstein from battle to battle!

Dark elves are a very diverse and versatile list, if you like using tactics. They're definitely not a 'rush up and charge them' type of army. Great looking models too, and nice magic... no wonder you like them!

You can't really look to hard into starting Wood Elves yet, as they are being re-released later this year with a more 'wild / barbaric' feel to them, and will also play a little differently to the way that they do now.
